At last, Megumi is herself again.

Barbie, Jenny, Fashion Royalty, Obitsu and 1/6 resins - basically anything 10-12inch/21-27cm or in the neighborhood.

At last, Megumi is herself again.

Yes, you read that right. I'm making a post that's not about Cherry.

*waits for everyone to wake up from the shock-faint*

Waaaaaay back in 2007ish, Megumi, my very first Obitsu ever, was stolen from me. Somebody lifted her carrying case probably thinking it was a purse or something, so I lost her and all of her stuff all in one go. I looked and looked but never found her. (I checked the dumpster behind my workplace for DAYS.) I got a replacement for her--after all, the doll is the personality, not the hunk of plastic, for me--but I couldn't replace the head because it was no longer in production and the doll that made her was suddenly collectible and three figures. For what I would have to spend to replace Meg's lost head, I could buy a resin doll. >.< So I purchased a new Barbie with the same mold, but it was never quite right. It was too big (yes, I know, Cherry's head is ginormous, but that's beside the point), the hair was wrong, and the color was too pale for normal Obitsu and too dark for OB white. >.< But I had my Megumi back, so I coped.

Last night in Wally World I saw a relatively inexpensive doll, but her skin was faultless, very pale, the head was about the size of an Obitsu head, and she was almost the spitting image facepaint-wise of Meg's long-lost head.

Did I snatch it up? Pshyeah!
Image
A quick switch, a little restyle of the hair, and there she is, my long-lost darling. The only thing missing is the bangs, but I like the way she looks as is. She looks even more like the lead character in her favorite manga (the one Ghaleon sent her oh so long ago that she still treasures).

This almost makes up for the chilling discovery of non-articulated Fashionistas.

I am a very, very happy Emby. And I'm bonding with my first girl again. <3

PS: Don't feel bad for Riri. Not only is she not jealous, she's thrilled that I'm connecting with Megumi again. And never fear, the pink-haired one still rules my heart.

Google Drive crapped out on me. XP So I had to do the Photobucket thing. Image should work now. I also updated Meg's picture in my sig.

Isn't she amazing?

embyquinn Oh wow....she is gorgeous!! I am so happy for you! I know exactly how it feels to lose something you love and think it's gone forever. Thankfully it's never been a doll, and it was lost in a big move, but I'm still piecing back my collection some 13 years later! She is just beyond stunning!! I have to ask emby, I hope you don't mind, but do you post about your dolls anywhere? I'm so curious every time I see your signature, both about the technical aspects (Joe's headsculpt, I must know!) and the personalities you've given them! <33

But I'm getting off of the subject, Meg looks so incredible! I adore the jacket and her necklace, which seems to be a signature style of hers? :D Her hair reminds me on the nose of the manga character Alita...not sure why, I'm thinking it's the face. :D Definitely not a bad comparison to make though! :)

You can find out about my dollieh krewe, including their sculpts and backstories, here:

To answer your question about Joe, his headsculpt is an old Disney John Smith doll rebodied on an original Ken Fashionista. I dyed the hair from blond to brown with thinned craft paint.

Yes, I am very, very happy with my born-again Megumi.

I thought she was a Japanese fashion doll at first not a Barbie. ;)

She is, isn't she? It amazes me how, every once in a while, the playline Mattel dolls have face screening that just blows you away. (On the down side, sometimes $500 "Platinum Label" collectible dolls look like they were face screened by myopic lemurs. But I digress.) The first Megumi head I purchased specifically for the purpose of replacing the original head (which I destroyed trying to do my first faceup) had that sort of "ka-BAM!" effect on me when I saw the doll in the store, and when that version of Megumi was stolen, I was heartsick because I knew I could never replace her. By that time the only Lea sculpt on the market was the 12 Dancing Princesses Blair, and to be honest, I found it a poor substitute, but I went with it because it was all I had. But now...this particular version of the sculpt is worthy of being Megumi. The color of the vinyl is a perfect match for Obitsu white, the face screening is so perfect I have no intention of tweaking it...Megumi's back, and she's ready to let the world know it.

I know, right? The Lea sculpt is very, very similar in feature to the Obitsu 01 female head, except that the lips are slightly fuller and the head is slightly larger overall. That's why I chose it for Megumi in the first place. That was back when I was not very confident with my faceup skills. I've gotten better since, as Cherry can attest...but I still won't touch Megumi's face painting. It's perfect.

She really is amazing looking. Photos don't do her justice. I've been calling her Raquelle but she's also known as "Ballerina Lea" (Lea is the actual name of the face mold).

Here's a stock photo:
