Places like JoAnn and Michaels have little wooden bird houses, doll houses, and all sorts of little wooden buildings. Hobby Lobby has a whole line of garden gnomes.

I get the feeling if I had a 3D printer my head making would go well but the body making would still need some engineering work. Getting the dolls I've made to stand or even sit up without slumping will be a major victory.

Hah yeah - like everyone else I do love the idea of just printing a doll! And all the sculpts you could want! There is a minimee 3D print company out there, but as the technology accessible by these companies stands... I'm happy to wait a couple more years! Though now that Makies have more options they are getting tempting...

MeltedCaramel: Yea Shiny!Vincent really sounds like the first version figure, I was tempted until I saw the figure in person in the shop and eep..

Yea I can see what they were trying to do with Version III Vincent's cloak but I think they failed miserably. Yea Advent Children Vincent's cloak is tattered... But it's also bright red and implied to not be simple cloth...

Ah that's a shame! I've had a nendoroid eat one of it's own joints before (annoyingly the joint holding the torso together) - but I hadn't had QC issues with Figmas before.

Hrmm yea I have not been impressed overall with Hot Toys recent output.. The Crow figure, though wonderfully sculpted is also sadly lacking!

Yea I really love the whole cyberpunk aesthetic and dystopias for coming up with interesting character designs and plots. Ah thanks so much!! Eeh - it's really lovely to hear that! <3 Eeh - I'm gonna go off and be happy for a bit now that you like my little group! :D

Edit: Ok long-overdue photo update in my doll-thread now...

I think the 3D printing technology is better utilized with blank sculpts. :? That mini-me company, the heads leave a lot to be desired from what I hear from personal reviews. They're also rather annoying if you don't have the colouring for it. A tan person with blonde hair...yeah. Mistakes apparently happen. But as for blank BJD bases? I want me a 3D printer. ;)

Shiny!Vincent sounds like one to stay away from then. Version 3, the cloak...is it terrible that it reminds me vaguely of bacon that has been cooked too long?

Nendoroids seem like they're either super solid or a particular sculpt has a ton of quality issues. The Strength figma is kind of notorious for being a little s**t. There seems to be something about this particular sculpt/run/something that just makes this figma break. I didn't even get the classic "arm break" that happens when the supports for Strength's arms fail and it falls and snaps her elbow off. I'm not sure why she's so structurally unstable but it's rather disappointing since in addition to using her for a custom I would have bought a second just to own, but now I'm really not sure. :?

What's wrong with the Crow figure? I noticed it had a lovely sculpt but I admit to not being very knowledgeable about that franchise.

Yeah, every time I go check out your bio page I keep getting sucked into the creativity. I adore Elrana especially. I have a real affinity for any and all things hacker/cybernetic/etc and combining that with heists and stealing things?? Instant nerdgasm in my book. I love all the updates! I can't say enough how much I adore your crew Vetinari. <33

Why did I have to watch Lassie The Miracle? Why did I have to get all the feels? Not like "Lassie" was sitting in a whelping box going "They're not mine! Honest!"

Just wasted an hour on Evilbay - caught myself looking at dollhouse miniature busts... I'd planned out a layout for a little collection of the things for the 1/6 guys and everything :?

MeltedCaramel:Yea as the current 3D printing stuff available for commercial (not industrial) use stands I agree with that stance for now! (Having seen what the high end industrial 3D printers are capable of though... I am willing to wait for the technology to get cheaper/more widely available - cos wow I want some of that!!)

Snigger! From now on Version III Vincent is redubbed Frazzle!Vincent after the bacon crisps!

Hrmm that really is a shame about Strength - I think I'd have that figma in billions of irreparable pieces within minutes. Since despite careful handling I've managed to almost rub off Lelouch's little fleur de lise thingies on his uniform  I reposed him a bit too often cos I could never decide if I wanted Geass face/Zero mask! Though I think Revoltech win the breakage to time open ratio for me - Revoltech Iron Man mkIII - broke his wrist off immediately... Still much as those figures are kinda cool Hot Toys Iron Man definitely superseded them...

The Crow - brilliant face-sculpt/likeness of Brandon Lee, but lacking lots of other details that would bring the figure up to the usual standards I'd gotten used to from Hot Toys. He's lacking The Scar, which Neca remembered to include on their lower end figure way-back... His coat is a bit "action-man" in how it sits - it's a bit too bulky/the material is too thick to really hang well. He's another recent example of a high pricetag with relatively few accessories, and it's common consensus that Hot Toys really should have given him the old Bruce Lee body rather than the narrow shoulder body he ended up on. Cos the narrow shoulder body can look really odd in tight tshirts - and guess what The Crow is wearing under that slightly too bulky coat? So he just seems ...rushed and not quite finished. But despite all of that I'm still glad to have him, the likenss is spectacular - and he is probably the best version of The Crow available on the market. I'd just expected slightly more from Hot Toys - especially wrt The Scar - I know it's not obvious in the film, but Brandon Lee insisted they include it as part of his makeup and it is there. It's as though the research guy who tells them what is/isn't important to the character was having a bad day or something. And he could really have done with a more neutral to melancholy face tbh - cos he's not even wearing the right outfit to recreate the scene in the film where he has the pyschotic grin! :ugeek: Ok that last bit is taking it a bit far - but from that overlong ramble I think you know what I mean! ...Just lots of little things not quite right that add up to overall disappointment.

Aw! Thanks again! <3 (Yep I've come over all emotional)

Elrana really should get more attention from me - but the male dolls steal all of it because they're so loudly charismatic to Elrana's quiet sneakiness. Though to be fair Elrana does probably win clothes-wise, her jumpsuit was the single most expensive bit of dollieh clothing I've ever bought! I'm going to try and rectify the attention thing with a new (hopefully improved) face-up next time the urge strikes, and possibly a more striking (though less practical for sneaking) wig. She still has one of the 1st bjd face-ups I did, and I'd really like to make her character a bit more obvious this time around (and the face-up less goofy!) Especially since her character developed a bit more as the newer guys have changed my weird internal plotlines for all of them! (Vasily is the other main casualty that's in dire need of a repaint! My first attempt at freckles looks more like smallpox!)

I have to go to the doctors (two of them!) in less than 6 hours, and instead of sleeping I am...surfing the net! That is just so incredibly stupid but I'm just not tired. I hate when that happens.

The high end industrial printers just...I want me one of them. Right now. Ugh, is it terrible that I've been like ninja-pricing some of the personal use ones and thinking "this isn't impossssssible"?? Just whipping up the idea you like is mighty freaking tempting. Of course classes would be needed for the technology that goes along with it but oh wow, yes, I want. That would be quite a sell though. And I'd have to make something I actually want printed. In fact, getting the software and sending my finished file off to a professional company to be printed sounds more my speed if I want to make something off this technology in the foreseeable future.

Frazzle!Vincent...it's got a nice ring to it. 8-)

Ahah, if I didn't know beforehand about the massive failure of unknown origin for Strength I would immediately have blamed it on myself despite never in my (adult) life breaking a figure that I haven't meant to break. Her head literally popped off like it was one of those cheap plastic pellet gun pellets being ejected off her head. She got some distance!

Revoltech is....ehhh. Their penchant for tiny tiny man heads creeps me out a bit and looks especially horrible on the particular male figures I collected because a lot of them are shirtless/in various states of chest/abdomen baring. Their female figures look amazing (I think I like their bare skin jointing even better than figma) but the joints get so freaking loose! My Nowa figure (yes, those cast-off ones  ), I bought her and one other character (I forget her name, I'm terrible) because I adored the sculpts, but of course giving me a figure and telling me "you can take their clothes off" is daring me to try it out just once even though that wasn't why I bought them (funnily enough Nowa was en route to me before I'd done more research and found out her clothes popped off!) so, needless to say exactly one depantsing later she's as limp as a rag doll. It's ridiculous. And I'm not even going to get into how freaking hard it is to pose some of the guys with thicker pants/weird armour/etc.

Well, after all that I had to check out an in depth review for The Crow! Even without seeing the movie I see a bit of...underwhelming response from the reviewers I checked out. There seems to be something odd about giving him that expression too. Not odd in the "is this a likeness of the actor" odd, but odd in that his accessories seem to kind of clash with his grin. Now again, I never watched the movie, so perhaps he really does play the guitar with a grin fit to scare old ladies, but I'm going to bet that's a no. The extras...can't judge. The body type? Quick google search later and I agree with you. Especially without the jacket. It seems like it's one of those "if you love the movie you'll get it" figures but Hot Toys didn't knock it out of the park.

Elrana is adorable, I can really see her in a punky spiked pixie cut. :) What direction are you going to try and take her faceup in? A little wild? Or is she going to stay on the more classic side like you have her now? I can see where all of your boys can hog the attention though! :D You've got such an amazing well rounded bunch though, it's amazing to read about (and see)! I also adore the variation in your characters, everything from young boys to older men (not enough older man damnit! They can be sexy too! *Coughs*), you really seem to have it all! Yaya is so adorable too, I want to scoop her up.
