When I was a baby I had an intolerance to oatmeal, I would get very sick from eating it and it's not like I was fussy...I ate it..But I'd throw it up after. My grandma was always bitching about it, claiming my mother was doing something wrong to warrant me not being able to handle it. So she waited until my parents were both out of the house...

And forced a full bowl of oatmeal down my throat...Yes forced, because she bragged about how she 'made her eat it' to my mother and my mom was PISSED, especially since...I wound up throwing it ALL up. My mom and dad were BOTH pissed off at this point, my grandma tried to get my dad to side with her and this was the few times he was on my mom's side. She made his ONLY baby daughter sick after all...And He was as angry with her as my mom was.

My mom...She got even. She said in a calm voice: "This will never happen again. You know why? Because I'M going to throw out all the oatmeal in this house. Every.Last.Grain." And she did, she passed me off to my dad and oatmeal didn't make it back into the house until I could actually handle it.

XD; Unfortunately my cousin in law on my mom's side...Well she's kind of coo-coo for coco puffs as far as new baby goes...Their pediatrician fed them some scare tactic and she was calling EVERYONE threatening us with not being able to see the new baby until we all got whooping cough shots including the 'kids' (myself included)...No one's come to see that kid BTW. We're not falling for THAT one.

It's like people's brains fall out of their heads as soon as babies enter the picture. Was it about the oatmeal or was it about "I will be right above all else." I think, for whatever wacky reason, the arguments over kids drag out the deeper heart issues that a person always had, but just wasn't seen before. My dad was the exact same way over food with my niece. They'd wait until my sister was gone and feed her baby food. They thought it wasn't right that my sister would begin the conversion to softer solids at the behest of her pediatrician. No, they thought she should have waited longer, and so they went and bought a bunch of baby food and would feed only that when they baby sat. Then they ranted to me about how horrible a mother my sister was. They'd say stuff (which to me was really manipulative) "YOU won't be like that, YOU listen to us."

Ah... no, actually I go and tell my sister everything you say and do. We have a sister pact. We know our parents are a bit loco on some stuff and we spy for each other. It's probably a bit underhanded but it's the most reliable way to gather viable intelligence.

My in laws are epic people. My MIL asks, "How do you want things done?" About that time a chorus of angels sang and rainbows flew out of my ears. Seriously? Mind-blown! I'm accustomed to the constant power plays on my side. My husband's people rock. She said, "It's been a long time since I've raised a baby." She even said, "I'm sure things have changed." I feel perfectly safe and secure leaving my son with them.

Oh, well. That's just the bad stuff. They do a million and one good things, smart and conscientious things. I'm not being fair if I only harp on the bad stuff. It's just frustrating when they DO go the way of wacky.

Kudos to your Mom for ditching the oatmeal. She sounds pretty awesome. :-)

And TO MC: Fasting does indeed suck. The last time I had to do that I was gulping water like mad trying to stave off the hunger pangs.

Listen to The Wiggles when it comes to putting baby to bed on their back in a empty crib. http://youtu.be/msRMxG5K6Mw The guy in black, older brother of the blue one, lost a baby to SIDS which set the events that started The Wiggles in to motion.

Trethowan: Haha, that's exactly what I'm doing. I've probably depleted the local water supply. My stomach sounds like a really angry bear is trapped in there. Ahhh well, an hour to go....and then I'm going to go rob the nearest Burger King.

My mom went to the hospital on Monday to find out what was wrong with her. She had been having problems with balance and had a sharp pain in her head and neck. They took some test, and they found out that she has lumps in both her brain and lungs. The one that's most concerning right now is the large one that's on her medulla, and she's getting surgery this afternoon to get it removed. She's saying that it would be a minimum of five hours for the surgery.

See if there is a local brain injury support group in your area. Each injury and surgery is different but it's good to have someone to help you through things. Brains are great at fixing themselves and I hope your mom feels better.
