Obitsu questions

Postby Samseramsamsam » Tue Jul 15, 2014 3:17 am

Aloha, as I am currently impatiently awaiting my first Obitus doll/s, I have some questions about them which some of you dollieh connoisseurs will surely easily answer ;)

I will get one 21 cm body (hard body) and one 23 cm (soft). The 23 currently already has a head (Haruka mold). I have also ordered the pixy head. I am planning to use the pixy head on the 23cm body and put the other head on the 21 cm body.
Unfortunately, while the Haruka needs 8mm eyes, the pixy mold only needs 6 mm... will have to order both sizes, which leads to my first question:

1. Can you also fit "eye chips" (the oval, flat "eyes") into the obitsu heads, or do you need full round eye balls..?
2. Which wig size fits better for the obitsu (as they are both stated with 4'' wig), 3-4 inch or 4-5 inch (I'm thinking to order at mimiwoo)?
3. Anyone ever head "head stains"? Would you recommend to use a wig cap?
4.The pixy head comes without a faceup; can I use watercolour crayons (on a base of MSC or similar?)
5.Are there any materials to stay away from in painting? Any experience with "normal" makeup e.g. eyeshadow as blush or for lips?
6. This may sound more brutal than it is meant to be: if I were to make my own wigs, can these be fastened by just pinning them on the head, or is the obitus plastic very delicate?

Thank you in advance!

1. Can you also fit "eye chips" (the oval, flat "eyes") into the obitsu heads, or do you need full round eye balls..?
Obitsu heads usually have "eye sockets": you can fit here half dome eyes and full round eyes, but not oval shaped ones unless you shave with a cutter the eye socket...and gived that then you will have to put the eyes in place with some eye putty I think it's not worthy the risk.

2. Which wig size fits better for the obitsu (as they are both stated with 4'' wig), 3-4 inch or 4-5 inch (I'm thinking to order at mimiwoo)?
it depends from the head mold. Pixie head is really small, and the only wigs I found that fits well Faye, my Pixie, are from Parabox site. Mimiwoo wigs are listed as 3.5/4.0 inch but they are really 4.0 and fit decently my S Gretel (but not perfectly). I hope someone can give you more specific info on the Haruka mold.

3. Anyone ever head "head stains"? Would you recommend to use a wig cap?
I never got a wig stain, but a wig cap will surely didn't damages.

4.The pixy head comes without a faceup; can I use watercolour crayons (on a base of MSC or similar?)
Sure!

5.Are there any materials to stay away from in painting? Any experience with "normal" makeup e.g. eyeshadow as blush or for lips?
Normal make-up contains greasy ingredients to help it stays on the human skin, and oils and grease is BAD for vinyl, ABS and resin, so stay away from them! Better buy some artist pastels from the art store, you won't need a lot of colors for a face-up and if you can buy them in individual colors you'll surely not going to spend a fortune for them.
6. This may sound more brutal than it is meant to be: if I were to make my own wigs, can these be fastened by just pinning them on the head, or is the obitus plastic very delicate?

Great, thank you so much for the comprehensive answers! :)
I'll have to see how to order from parabox, then ^^" (for the wig/s)

Aaah new dolliehs, new questions ;)

I have now received my 23cm (soft) girl with a head, and a 21 cm body. I really would like to transplant the head to the 21 cm body. However. The 23cm has the more cylindrical neck piece and I am a bit afraid to just apply the necessary force to rip the head off... can I damage anything by just applying more force?

The 21 cm body (hard bust) has a "pointier" neck piece, which I really hope will also accomodate the head, as both bodies were bought 2nd hand and came without additional neck pieces... (I only learned about the neck pieces after having bought them ^^").

Now I'm impatiently waiting for the second head and the eyes to be delivered :)

Do not use oil pastels. They will stain. Get the reg. chalk pastel and some sandpaper. Sand some of the pastel on a paper plate and use a small brush. I use the pastels for body blushing.

To get a head off so it doesn't rip. Let it sit in hot water, but not boiling water, for about a minute. It should come off very easily. If not soak longer.

Bwahaha my Obitsu adventures do not end; I am really looking forward to receiving the second head ^^

Thanks for the tip; I have lovely pastels and watercolour pencils waiting for the "nekkid" head :) (no oils)

Finally managed to get the head off the 23cm SB body… only to realize that I really do not think the neckpiece on the 21 cm HB will take it D: (I will have to try to screw the neck piece of, then slide the head on, screw on again, but currently have misplaced the tiny screwdrivers -_-)

The neck piece of the 23cm body could be completely removed; it has a little “ball” in the neck socket… is that also the case with the 21…? (I really do not dare to pull any stronger for fear of busting the neck in case that this body does not have the same feature ^^”)

Do you know if one can buy only the neck pieces somewhere…?

I have neck pieces for 21, 23 and 27cm bodies - I can send you a few different types?

For anyone else new to Obitsu and struggling with their heads, for the heads that open up, this tutorial is really helpful:

More tipps for other beginners:
When trying to put in 8mm eyes e.g. for Nano Haruka, it really helps to warm the eye part of the head from the inside with a hairdryer :) (little by little, though...)

Knitting patters for Monster High dolls fit nicely, at least on 21 cm and 23 (small bust) (minor alterations necessary e.g. if you like longer skirts)

Questions:
Tipps on how to put eyes into the Pixie head? o_O The detachable skull plate is smaller than e.g. with Nano Haruka=less space, plus the eyes are set rather deeply and thus nearer to the neck opening=even less space

Can the soft bust body stain when wearing darker knitted fabrics?
