soft handmade dolls!

this girl doesn't have a name yet. her body is made from an old petticoat that I got at a vintage shop years ago, the dress from scraps from a sewing project I did before school started, and like a 1836 dress that I want to make for myself. hair is wool sock yarn, the ruffle is from the same petticoat I made her body from, and a fichu with new lace to fill in the neck line. she's very simple body wise.

this is Argenta! she's not quite done, she still needs her coat and maybe a backpack. her body is made of linen and firmly stuffed, with wool yarn hair. various fabrics that were leftover from making doll kimono for clothes and fake leather for the boots. the hands and feet are too big and I wish the head was a little bigger, but I'm pretty happy. I;ll adjust the pattern when I make another one.

so what do you guys think?

How cute they are! I love how many different fabric colors and textures make them up, and how nicely it all comes together.
I'm not clumsy! The floor just hates me, the table and chairs are bullies, and the walls get in my way. -Anonymous

thanks guys! its been really cathartic to make dolls just for myself, and not giving a fig what anyone else thinks. next one is going to have floofy clothes, then maybe I'll make a rococo one to try out a pattern in small scale that I want to make for myself.

The Doll Book by Etelle Ansley Worrell has a family of 1/6 scale soft dolls with different historical clothes.

You can get the Wish Booklet series strait from the publisher on Amazon. The First Ladies books have a female doll, the men book a male doll (dolls are in the first of the pair) and Vol IX has a kid.

I have a pretty good book (actually, I have an embarrassing amount of doll making books at this point) with historical clothes in various doll scales. shoot, what is it called...

anyway, I really wish I could do a better job with sculpting clay dolls, but until then, squishy cloth dolls.
