Allergic to resin? Is it possible?

Ooh, interesting that most porcelain dolls aren't all porcelain. Will need to keep that in mind. I am allergic to sawdust, but the smell that bothered me definitely wasn't sawdust. I am very familiar with that smell, and this wasn't it. The little Irish doll is also all porcelain(maybe because of how small she is?) and I still have trouble with her so me thinks there is something else going on. I'll keep an eye out for more info on porcelain. I'm learning so much about materials for dolliehs! So much I don't know. O_O

I have multiple chemical sensitivities, and because of this, I cannot have plastic or resin dolls. I can't even be in the same room with them - if I am, my tongue feels tingly, I have trouble breathing, and I get hives. Not fun. This is why I switched to porcelain BJDs. There is no test to determine this, as far as I know. It's just something you'll notice when you get around these materials (and others, like perfume, etc, depends on the individual). I have never sanded resin, or worked with it in any way, just played with dolls made of it. Now I can't get near it again.

Oh, and porcelain BJDs are made all of porcelain! Just be careful that the artist didn't use other materials, like glues (to suede joints), or polymer clay (which is really plastic too, I get very sick from it). It's tricky, so if you're having this problem, be sure to ask a lot of questions before you buy...

Technically you don't have an allergy; you have chemical hypersensitivity. I know that to you this makes no difference, but to a doctor it means two entirely different ways of treating your potential exposure if you come into an emergency room. What works for anaphylactic shock (life threatening allergic episode) does not work for life-threatening hypersensitivity to chemicals (which is essentially poisoning ).

Probably it was kapok, which does have a faint odor which is different from sawdust.

I'll take a guess on the Irish doll and say probably there was mildew in her clothing somewhere, a not-uncommon problem with old doll clothing.

I agree but many people think they are having "allergies" when it's really a reaction like I am having instead. Which is why I mentioned it
