All in, but over my head?

Postby GlitterThief » Sat Feb 14, 2015 2:55 pm

Hello, I have some more questions if it isn't to much trouble. I spent all of yesterday on the parabox website and browsing the boards here and I've been thinking ("A dangerous pastime." "I know."), maybe I can build my ideal doll. What I'm really hesitant about is what will and will not fit together. Can anyone tell me whether the abdominal section for the 50cm doll ( http://parabox.jp/obitsu/50parts/50RP-F01WP-23.html) and the elbow and knee joints of the 60cm doll (http://parabox.jp/obitsu/60PARTS/60RP-F01WP-30.html) can be crammed into a 40cm-45cm body? I ask about the abdominal peice because on the website they have an abdominal piece labeled for the 40cm (http://parabox.jp/obitsu/40parts/RP40-WHG-08.html ) that looks different from the 45-50cm piece and I really would like a 40cm doll. Also (while I'm wondering anyway) I just love the Gretel head with eye pockets, and the Haruka head, could I possibly sweet talk anyone into posting some pictures of these heads on 40 and 45cm bodies for size reference? Thank you, I'm getting really excited about these idea's :D .

I am going to call on K2 to please post the link to his comparison chart of his Madh Vinyl girls! They are all sorts of combinations of obitsu parts - including Haruka heads on 50s and 40s :) He is also the most knowledgeable person in the entire forum about how to modify/work with their parts :) I'll shoot him a PM to be sure he knows what you are asking about and I'm certain he can help.

In fact, I may have to see about making some of his threads stickies so they are easier to locate!

Thank you so much, I really appreciate it :D . I feel like I might be being a bother though considering this is so similar to the first question I asked, just longer  . I'm just so happy to have some help figuring everything out before I blow a bunch of time and money on something not knowing if it will work or not.

This is the Haruka head, the Gretel would be larger than this head. The next picture is a 40cm abdomen next to the 50cm one. The 40cm is on the left.

The 60cm joints are not designed for the 50cm and smaller bodies. While anything is eventually possible with lots of work, I wouldn't do it.

Thank you for the pics ^_^ Yeah, that was what I was concerned with. I would like to mod the doll, but having no experience I'm afraid I might be getting way ahead of myself.

The 1/3 scale Obitsus are wonderful dolls for modifying without the use of tools. Many of the parts can be mixed and matched to customize a body to your liking. One of the important aspects of this customizing is to think of the Obitsu bodies as coming in two different size classes. The two size classes are the 40cm up through 50cm bodies and the 55cm and 60cm bodies. Most parts of these two size classes are different diameters and without extensive modification can not be mixed. Heads are the most notable exceptions.
If you are really new to Obitsu dolls, I would suggest getting a complete body first. Once you have the body for a bit and see how work and how they are constructed it will be much easier to plan modifications. They are one of very few dolls that have an internal skeleton, separate from their external skins. Volks Dollfie Dreams being the other.

At last (rough) count I have about 12 Harukas and 3 Gretels. As more and different parts were released over the years several of my MADh Vinyl girls have gone through body swaps. Anna Marie is a Haruka and started as a 47cm Obitsu body. At that time (2008) the 47cm was a custom body designed by Parabox that used Obitsu manufactured parts (of the 55/60cm size class). This body is no longer manufactured.
In this picture, Anna Marie (on the right) is a Haruka on a 47cm. Diamond (on the left) is a Gretel on the 55cm body.

Later Anna Marie migrated to the 48cm body (an Angel Philia model) and Diamond was switched to a 50cm body.
Image

Another girl, Hyacinth, also made a body switch. She is also a Haruka and started as a 50cm (Yamato VMF50 Type B).

She recently transferred to a 40cm.

From left to right, Hyacinth (Haruka 40cm), Anna Marie (Haruka 48cm), and Miyuki (Haruka 50cm).

For more Obitsu body types than you can shake a stick at, pursue MADh Vinyl.

Thank you so much for the info, I am super new to BJD's as a whole. I do not own any dolls yet (and it might be quite awhile before I can afford one), but I want to get all my info sqaured away before I buy one. I suppose I'm just trying to get everything I want in one fell swoop :) .

All that much information at once can be a bit intimidating ;) (I know I was completely overwhelmed at first)

Whatever you do, just remember to have fun!
If that means dismembering your doll to put in new pieces, you just need to be careful enough not to actually break sth. And even then, that is the great fun and advantage of Obitsu; the parts can be replaced in case of a mishap
Sometimes you will have to use "required force", but do not resort to violence ;)

 I very much agree. The more info the better though, Then at least I will be prepared for minor discrepencies instead of being like "Wait, why can't my doll do the same things as his/her doll?". I think my main issue is I've been looking at some very skillfully modified dolls and prematurely convinced myself I can totally do that (even though I do not own a doll and have no prior experience with them ;) ).
