#50 No Greater Love
Part 3
Disclaimer: Violence, guns, lots of blood, and loads of amateur photoshopping.
“If I had the Jewel of Eolande none of this would have happened,” Foster said. “That shaman stripped me of my power and my birthright. I lay this calamity at his feet. Micah, I swear to you on my life that I will avenge you.”
“I’m not dead yet…” Micah whispered.
"I will avenge your grievous wounding, then.”
Micah smiled. “Is Ivan…”
“He is safe.”
“We did it,” Micah said. “We actually did it.”
“Jillian is the one who saved us,” Foster said. “That woman is dynamite! Perhaps she would consider joining my cabinet.”
“Foster, keep him warm and quiet.” Jillian said. She checked her watch. “Help will be here in eight minutes.”
“Who did you call?” Micah whispered.
“I just called 911, sweetie. You hang tight, okay?” She narrowed her eyes. “We need to get Ivan out of sight. Foster, you hide too.”
“Why?”
“You care to explain a comatose vampire and a tiny fairy to the medics?”
Meanwhile… (outside the apartment door)
“Sounds rough in there, should we go in?” Gabe asked.
“No. I fear we made a grave miscalculation.”
“We?” Gabe chuckled. “I ain’t driving this train wreck.”
“I misjudged Zo.” Abraham. “I never thought he would go this far. Once head office is informed of this, he will become out next target.”
“Assuming the g-men don’t get him first,” Gabe said. “You hear who Annie Oakley in there called?”
“You forget I don’t have a werewolf’s keen sense of hearing.”
“Well, then you ain’t gonna like this old buddy, but I can hear those crazy kids in there busting up all the library books tryin’ to break your totems.”
“Not my books!”
I’ve got to get out of here…
She’s on the phone. Now’s my moment!
“You’re here, good. You’ve got to go in there… the woman with the gun… she shot me.”
“Sorry man.” Gabe sighed. “You know the rules. Why didn’t you listen to me?”
“You’ll never take me alive!” Zo leapt to his feet and threw himself over the second floor balcony (it’s totally there!) Zo ran away, fled into the night, vamoosed, and escaped because le plot says he must. Dun Dun Dun!
The boys would never find his totems, but they were going to burn the place down if he didn’t do something. “Release.” Abraham felt his spell dissipate. “Catch Zo first. He can’t have gone far. Meet me at the library once you have him.”
“I’m on it,” Gabe leapt off the balcony in pursuit of his wayward comrade.
“Archers, send ‘round another volley! Send more men to the east wall… don’t let that gate fall!” Ivan bolted upright and blinked. Memories of battle faded and his shoulders dropped. The apartment. Endless reruns of television shows. Nothing to do but wait for the sun to set. The only thing worse than everlasting life is everlasting boredom. It has killed more vampires than the sun or stakes in the chest.
