What other hobbies do you have/Things you collect?

Postby ButteryBass » Fri Sep 04, 2015 4:41 pm

Though the dollies might think they command all of my attention, I've got other stuff I like to do

Like rocks. I've got 'em. Real rocks, fake rocks, pet rocks, tumbled rocks raw rocks. they's all good.
I'm really terrible, in that last time I was at a gift store with the bottomless pit of cheapo tumbled stones, I picked out all the good ones...Or at least the ones that I think are good.

I also like vases and bottles, particularly small ones. I guess I just have a thing for vitreous things. *Shrug*

Apparently, I collect instruments that I don't know how to play. I'm just not that musical and can't teach myself how to play the keyboard or electric bass that I have. It's really sad because the bass is really nice, but I don't know what to do with myself when I pick it up.

Finally, I like to bake, but I usually only bake when I'm anxious. Can't cook, tho.

I can stove-top cook anything but I don't bake that well, including food items that go in the oven as opposed to getting tossed in a wok. haha I've been working on casseroles. They're EASY. Who knew? *shrugs* I was always busy having fun with stir fries. I think the casserole is the busy-mom-meal of choice.

*flashes a cardboard sign with the word HELP!!!! Dolliehs run my life!!! on it*

They got themselves involved when they realised that books, animes, movies and videogames meant that there is a ready catalog of clothing.

The most is they let me off for some quiet reading with one of them watching me read so that I don't try nothing funny.

Art supplies will always work to edge everything out, pencils, paints, ink, stamps, mixed media, clay...
The book, real and digital, breeding program is going well. I know how to do some basic book making, as in hand binding.
The action figures have gotten under control. The bulk of them are roughly 5" Star Trek and I discovered the 5" Doctor Who fit but they're limited to Doctors only.
I write.
I try to play the glockenspiel or glockenspiel app. I do best with an instrument I don't have to tune.
Forgot to add knitting, crocheting, and some sewing.

I think my main hobby is collecting hobbies…
Things I actually collect: Dolls, knives, fountain pens (small but growing), and apparently mini moth orchids (I have four pots - the orchids in two of them appear to be doing a good job of reproducing themselves so I have 7 in total). Oh - also ebooks (we also have a very large collection of physical books but that doesn't get added to very much these days due to space) and art supplies ;)
Things I do: Draw, paint, photography, read, crochet, tat, make jewellery with various stuff (silver, copper, brass, leather, threads of different sorts, beads, poly clay etc), make other bits with leather, knit. I've probably missed something.

I can cook - pies, Yorkshire puddings and rice bowls (or don buri or - my preferred term - stuff on top of rice) are what I'm best at - but it's not a hobby.
Remember, the reverse of stressed is desserts.
Growing older is mandatory. Growing up is optional.

I collect keys of any kind, thrifted coats, especially vintage vinyl and leather, Lego and costume fairy wings. The keys don't take much space, so it's an ever growing collection as I find them, I don't have the closet space to add to the coats right now, and the fairy wings is a one pair a year thing. Sometimes I make costumes to match the wings.

I have some potted plants, I guess that counts as a hobby. Casual gamer, light reader, used to play D&D and Magic the Gathering.

I had and I still have a lot of hobbies, and a thing for collecting various stuff.

I collect rocks, pieces of glass rounded by the sea, cute stationery, and nail polish. I have some anime figures (Vash the Stampede from Trigun, some characters from Berserk, Ryuk from Death Note), but it's been a lot since I bought the last one (now I prefer to concentrate on dolls).
I have a serious Fabric Hoarding Disorder (4 cardboard boxes of scraps and various thing, like buttons and laces mainly ripped from old clothing).

During the years I used to play the bass guitar (stopped because I cannot manage to find a band to play with, in my depressed town, and lost motivation), play Magic: The Gathering, cosplay, make wooden replica of weapons (among the others I had a cool even if really simplified replica of Alastor from Devil May Cry).

I still play a lot of tabletop RPG with my hubby ad our geeky friends (Dungeons and Dragons, mainly, but also Fate and GURPS. We are currently debating about trying to run a game of Kult).
I read manga and comics, even if I stopped starting to buy new series because you know, lack of shelf space, and I watch anime and some TV series, like Agent of Shield and Doctor Who.
I play a decent amount of videogames on PS3 and PC (used to play a lot more when I had more spare time... adulthood, you know?) and now I'm playing Borderlands 2 in co-op with hubby.
I'm a compulsive reader, (and a serial hoarder of book), I write, and I run a roleplay via e-mail with my best friend and our crazy characters: some of them are shelled in my dolls.
I sew and make jewelry. I used to sell my crafts in a themed market with a friend, now we are too distant so I'm fully dedicated to my little shop on Etsy.
And... well, I cook, a lot, especially traditional Italian food, following my grandma's recipes. And every damn summer I make tons of homemade jam in order to not waste the fruit of my parent's orchard, usually plum jam that ends on tarts (in some years also apricot or fig one.)
I have some potted plant on my balcony and I want to try grow some strawberries next Spring.

So, probably I'm an hobby collector too ^^'

I collect everything. But some of my collections got tossed when I moved rooms. My mom's version of an intervention. XD
I had a collection of pinecones until my brothers said they had spiders in them...
Candy wrappers of all my favorite candies and some just because they smelled good. (These got dumped)
I have quite a few books. Haven't catalogued them recently.
National Geographic
Maps
Small collection of posters.
Stickers!
Pens
Rocks, gemstones (my mom spent a lot of money on jewelry television), etc.
I have a small collection of LEGOs though I stopped buying the bulk block boxes when the $20 bucket started containing less than 1,000 pieces and now just get one Christmas set a year for a LEGO Christmas Village. ^_^ This year I kind of want the ferris wheel though. >_> I also have a few of the first sets of BIONICLEs.
Shiny pointy objects - I have Katanas, daggers, hatchets, machetes, an axe (was so disappointed the blade wasn't sharp) and a bunch of small trinket/pocket knives.
Beanie Babies/stuffed animals in general (I did take some time this summer to reduce my stuffed animal/doll collection a bit. So difficult. I think I got rid of two to three large kitchen bags of stuffed animals and old baby dolls.
Twisted Spiders - These are beaded spiders that I get finished as necklaces. They're a lot of fun! I think I have 10ish now? I got a jewelry tree specifically to hang them all on. ^_^
Stamps... I have a moderate stamp collection.
I'm not sure if you'd call it a collection or just pack rat habits but I have tons of old notebooks and school assignments that I can't seem to throw away just yet. XD
Book Marks - This has pretty much stopped since I haven't gone into an actual bookstore in quite awhile and found old giftcards make some of the best bookmarks.
Tea Sets
Key Chains
Bottle Caps. My dad always makes sure to save me a few when he's trying a new brand.
Ceramics (my grandma makes ceramics so most of them are from her), Porcelain Dolls, BJDs and MH/EAH dolls
I also love playing online games where you can dress up avatars or collect critters like UniCreatures, GaiaOnline, etc.

Hobbies...Besides collecting things I like taking pictures, hiking, and reading. I also enjoy working on websites and drawing house plans, my current obsession is tiny houses and living off-grid. ^_^
