Sybarites

I ran across a English (as in England) BJD named Sybarite. I did a search and these haven't been mentioned yet on the forum.
These came out in 2004 and are in fact made of resin. The jointing and face/head style reminds me more of barbies, but this is the first UK based one of these I have seen. The seem to be considered as very high end fashion dolls. They seem to run $300-$400 and up.

I believe they are off topic on DoA so you wouldn't see them there. At their asking price, it's not surprising many people don't have them.

If I recall correctly they prefer porcelain. There is also a contract that you can't sell it for 3 years, or something like that. I've head a lot of stuff about that contract but I don't know how much is accurate.

I like the idea of Sybarites and was quite taken with one for a while. But they're cost prohibative for me. If I was going to spend that kind of money on a doll it would tracking down a Soom Cass.

I couldn't have said it any better myself which makes them ironically appropriate to be Lady Gaga dolls since a good portion of the time SHE looks like a drag queen.

Dont' get me long, I like some of Gaga's music....but her taste in clothing.....?

I've seen Sybarites a lot in some old Haute Doll magazines and have really just not been impressed with them - let alone the price. I'd rather spend that kind of money on another obitsu to play with!

They seem to have an incredible marketing strategy in place, though. They hold exclusive parties where the dolls are unveiled, etc. Seeing the prices- their strategy seems to be working.
I'm not really into that size/type of doll, but I admire the artistry and creativity that goes into how they are being promoted, etc.

In that sales link, the one for $279 pounds would be equal to $441 American Dollars. 327 pounds is $517 American Dollars. Pretty pricey for a Barbie-type doll.

I honestly liked sybarites and i used to look at pictures of them on flikr alot. But after reading the interview with the creators in FDQ, I changed my mind. They really came off as snobby fashion world jerks to me.
