Dye for a hard vinyl doll?

Postby DollyKim » Sun Jan 07, 2018 4:07 pm

I've got a Gene doll who's yellowed unevenly and basically gone to squat color wise. I'd like to dye her something non human, so the unevenness won't matter.

Any recommendations?

iDye Poly or RIT Dyemore can dye plastics well, though the few times I did dye it you need to dye it until it's SUPER dark to get an even coating otherwise it can come off marbled and patchy looking.

Here's one where I dyed his limbs for a cyborg look, and if you dye for a long while the colour does even out but it's super dark.

Here's what I mean by uneven dyeing (and I did dye a spare hand which was even but super dark):

so yeah both times I used iDye Poly and they work well but only if you got really dark colours in mind.

Thanks, for what I'm thinking uneven won't hurt.

I am going to have to try that. Can I get flesh tone dye?

Saw that Rit has a line called Dyemore https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GrgqdWvYags for synthetics. I looked at some of the colors and there appears to be different shades of human flesh tones. I'm pondering making one of the males I have darker any way.

I wonder if coffee or tea would work just to darken a doll? That would be a smell I could live with.

I finally got around to dying with Rit dye for synthetic. The body I was using was Ginny's body from the Harry Potters series and the head was a Skipper. The top half and head took the dye right away. It was the legs that wouldn't take the dye at all. I left it in for over a hour and even add all the dye. I ended up having paint the legs.
