Question on the Barbie Babysitters

Postby WhiteDove01s » Sun Nov 25, 2018 2:39 am

Does anyone know if these are Skipper or Stacie height? (It feels weird to this old fossil to even have to ask that, as it used to be so much easier to tell... XD) Or do they vary? There's one AA one I'm looking at, but my shelves are also short any newer tall Stacies to sew for. It'd be nice if she was that size, but wouldn't drop her completely from my wish list. I'd just like to know so I'd know if I still need to look for a Stacie too.

Skipper height I'd day. I have the guy, in the blue striped shirt, and he's shown with Harry Potter, Petite Barbie, Curvy Dancer, and an average height Barbie. They just aren't very articulated.

Thanks!

Yeah, it's sad they still haven't spread the Made-To-Move thing to Ken or any of the smaller sized dolls, though I should be glad they're making MTM in the other body types. These days my dolls divide into three groups: Those I buy for looks (often minimally poseable fashionistas that hopefully someday will be swapped onto MTM bodies), those I buy for their joints (any MTM I can afford to grab at the time is a blessing at this point), and those I buy because I don't have that body shape as a sewing dummy yet. XD I plan on grabbing the Babysitter boy for reason #3, and was looking at the AA girl for reason #1, so they get a pass on being sadly jointless for now in the hopes it can be corrected later.

And now I know I still have to add a Stacie to my shopping. When did she get so tall, anyway? O.o XD

Their shoulders, hips and necks are jointed. The Harry Potter kids have good joints going on.

I had a 'I don't have that one yet' phase, just don't let it get out of control. It is possible to work out a S-M-L-XL general fitting with many of them, especially guys.

Yeah, I did too... I'm pretty much just focusing on Barbie for now as they're kind of generically popular and easy to get. And in most cases these days there's a doll I want that covers whatever body type. Well, except the new Kens so far because they all have molded hair. I may have to get one anyway at some point and see if I can shave the hair off with a razorblade and still be able to root hair...

I've just about got the Barbie range covered except for a few gaps. When my mother developed a liking for Monster High we started getting mixed fashion doll boxes off Goodwill and splitting them for a while, plus I had some of the harder to find ones from when I was a kid. I have a reproduction pre-twist original they made (tho no similarly 'old' skipper or Ken yet), a whole bucket of twist-waists and bellybuttons, a single Model Muse, Pregnant Midge, twist and flex (I think that's the name for the two girls with the rubber middle, one of which sadly has a broken back), a couple hobbits, the range of new Barbie body shapes, an older Stacie, older twist-waist-era Skipper AND her boyfriend, twist-waist era Ken, harley-body ken, newer Kelly, and the babysitter baby and toddler sets. I think I'm only missing original Skipper, original Kelly (and maybe a Kelly in the middle), Pregnant Midge's baby, the new Stacie, and the new Kens. Maybe. I don't really worry about it until I decide to sew for one and realize I don't have that body type. Got to do something constructive with my Spoonflower swatches after all, and there's only so much you can do with 8 square inch piece of non-stretch fabric.

In case you're still looking for an answer, from what I've seen from owning most of the current Babysitter dolls (assuming you mean the Babysitter Inc. dolls), the girls are all the same size, with the modern Skipper body. Her proportions are extremely similar to the Petite Barbie body, to the point they can easily share clothes. (They're a similar height to the 90s era Skipper with the smaller body (based off a comparison with my Pizza Party Skipper), just a bit shorter, but they're not as tall as Teen Skipper, and the proportions or all three are different.)

I also need to add the newer Stacie to my collection. She's the only newer bodied doll I don't have. (I only wish they would articulate her . . . I paid a small fortune to Frankendoll together a fully articulated Skipper using three different dolls. I stole the Hula dancing Skipper doll's articulated arms and torso, then the articulated legs from one of the Camping Fun Skippers (the one in a set with Chelsea) then the head from another Camping Fun Skipper with red streaked hair. I sadly can't do this for Stacie though since Mattel WON'T GIVE HER ELBOWS.)

And, yes, I meant the Babysitters, Inc ones, which are looking more interesting all the time despite the lack of joints - I could use a few more shorter girls on my shelves, and some of them look pretty cool. I'm still glad I snagged the boy one first tho - that was the first teen-sized male Barbie I've seen since I was still a kid (It actually made me forgive him for having molded hair)... and honestly, poor Kevin could use a friend on my shelves. XD

I've still got several gaps in my collection (particularly the newer Kens, as I may have to do head swaps if they don't start making them with hair again), but I like having variety on my shelves. And, wow... congrats on accomplishing that bit of work! The best I found with the Stacies is that I do have a poseable older one that has permanent tennis shoes that can't be changed and one loose-jointed leg (made that way). 1999 Awesome Skateboard Stacie. She's pretty hard to find now, but I got lucky and snagged one missing her accessories (but still had her clothes!) on ebay some years back. And, yes, she has elbows. And knees.
