Storm Check-in for Anyone on the East Coast

Postby Kattriella » Fri Sep 27, 2024 8:20 pm

So the rain from the hurricane has resulted in half my town being underwater. My family is safe and out of the flood zone, but all of downtown is currently submerged and the water hasn't reached its peak yet. How's everybody else doing?

We are in NE Florida, and didn't have any real damage, just a LOT of tree debris and our carport ground driveway black mats went flying into our fence and garden area!!!! And our power was out from midnight until 11:30 AM so that wasn't fun, especially since at the same time, our cat was/is sick with diarrhea for a few days and we couldn't find a vet opened due to the hurricane. But thankfully, the vet did open for a few hours on Friday, with a substitute vet (who we knew from getting vaccinations earlier this year on her 'mobile vet' setup).

Rteh (our cat) doesn't have parasites or anything--she's totally healthy--but they said she might have stress diarrhea, which is possible after some heavy construction work we'd just done last Sunday (installing a drain across our driveway and yard--just in time for the Hurricane! What a blessing!) BUT she was having #2 issues PREVIOUS to the construction work.

Not diarrhea but she has been running like a madwoman from her #2 as if it hurts her. She literally jumps away from it before its done and sometimes the last piece(s) flying out from her, misses the litter box and also if she goes outside, she runs from it, as well. Runs and doesn't cover it anymore. This was before the diarrhea and I asked about that but neither the vet nor the nurse could explain it. :sighs:
Her #1 is perfectly fine---she covers, all is normal and well. But #2---yikes!!! It's just lately--about 7-9 days now. Previous to that, she was PERFECT in her litter habits!

And if the vet can't explain why it's happening, how will it stop? Poor baby!

Anyway, we are so sad for all the people who did have severe damage and heartache during Helene--we are praying for them!

I wonder if maybe she felt the storm coming and that's what messed up her #2 habits. Maybe she's afraid she won't be safe while going, and so runs as soon as she's almost finished.

Everything on town is basically shut down right now because the bridges are flooded. We might get more rain later today, too. We love outside of town in an elevated area with trees around that act as a wind break, so other than possibly replacing a few shingles, we didn't get any major damage, other than our driveway washing out, which is fixable.

Also, my cats might have worms that I need to wrangle them for later to shove pills down their throats, but they're all outside right now exploring the yard after all the rain. (When one of them shows possible signs, I treat all of them just to be safe, since they share so many spaces.) I'll catch them when they come in for lunch. It really is like having these toddlers sometimes.

We're officially under a boil water advisory in my area, and they may shut the water off county wide because of contamination issues and the fact that the equipment is damaged. So that's how things are going on my end.

KirahFaye-san! :hugs: So glad you are all right and safe! That must've been so hard and stressful for you to have no power/internet for so long!!! God bless you! :hugs:

We're all fine here from Milton! (NE Florida) It was very rainy and windy and NOISY all last night up to around 4 AM. Our cat, Rteh, was SO TERRIFIED! She wanted to stay inside the house in my room to sleep but Mom didn't really want that so I went down to the guest room to spend the night with her to calm her. She was scared until around 12: 45PM and then she finally settled down, hugging my hand. Awwww!
She woke up every 2 hours though so I'm a bit exhausted too! :laughs:
But we have no damage it seems.

I pray for everyone who was in the path for healing and comfort.

God bless!

Happy to see everyone who has posted. I hope anyone else is also doing well. I'm so grateful we don't have an annual earthquake/volcano season here!
