What makes this different????

The place for those OT discussions that you just HAVE to share in a doll themed forum.

What makes this different????

Postby Greyhaunt » Mon Apr 26, 2010 2:31 pm

Ok, I've really been wondering about some of DoA's decisions lately. I mean, the Kaye Wiggs dolls are OT even though I've seen OnT dolls that look very similar, the new Sleeping Elf doll is OT even though it is not any different from her other OnT dolls (except for being way short) and now they are questioning the new Impledoll doll. Mind you this guy isn't my cup of tea - but HOLY CRAP that's a hell of a sculpt!!!

Why do I feel that if Soom put this out there wouldn't be any question about OT or OnT? Seems to me the joints have balls - don't they? If this doll gets declared OT there then they need to be very clear as to why - because I suspect the only reason will be that his unique face ain't "pretty" enough with those horn things on it. And that's just [s]wring[/s] wrong.

Whoa, he's definitely Different, isn't he? I can't quite tell if he's supposed to be weird in an organic half-demon way, or in a half-mecha way.... maybe it would depend on how he was painted? He could be absolutely stunning with the right faceup, painting and costume/props. Or absolutely freaky.

He doesn't appeal to me personally, but that's just me -- I'm the one who wishes the newest Soom Monthly doll was a little less pretty and a little more gargoyle-ish. :) I do like that they're stretching the boundaries on the kinds of characters and dolls they create.

I never know what DoA's standards are. I think there's just a bunch that want dolls THEY like and that's that.

QFT

Honestly the only place I have ever seen this much nonsense is in SCA politics. They are allowing tinies/anthros that are a lot less human than this guy.

Mind you, not for me, but he is interesting. If I had a zillion dollars I would definitely create a character AROUND him for SWC.

Whoa!... he is unusual, but not my cup of tea either. What an interesting sculpt! I think he would make an excellent alien character.

Maybe it's that simple! I just don't understand how some dolls are not "Asian" enough, and some are. To me, very few of them seem Asian at all. I really can't see the difference.

The sculpt looks to have been influenced by the "biomechanics" of H.R. Giger.

Well, after having my entire (unrecoverable) signature deleted over one line of html I'm probably not the best person to ask about DoA. Sometimes I wonder if a few of the mods aren't perpetually PMSing.

I know DoA is supposed to be the largest BJD forum in the internet world, so the pressure to keep things tidy and in order probably has the mods erring on the side of over-reacting more often than not. However, in the short time I've been a member there I've seen two distinctly opposing procedures that I personally disagree with. One is when the mods come into a thread and publicly reprimand someone for all the world to witness and the other is when they delete something (posts, photos, signatures . . .) without so much as an explanation. Heck, my signature was replaced with this big old white rectangular image exclaiming to everyone that links to the Dragon Cave were not allowed. Gee - thanks. How 'bout a PM informing me of that rule and allowing me to remove the link without embarrassing me in public or losing my sig poem forever?

Ahem . . . as I said, I'm probably not the best person to ask . . . . :P

This happened to me yesterday when I declared their decision to deem Thistledown by Tinybear, OT!!! No comment to me, no explanation, nothing, so I then wrote again in the thread asking why. No response.

They are a law unto themselves.

This new sculpt is incredible. I'm not into the big BJDs, but I should think someone will have a field day painting that. Such amazing creativity deserves a wide audience. DOA deserves to lose some following.
