Noob question(s) about wigs for Ellowyne

Postby kenaiqueen » Fri Jul 01, 2011 4:59 pm

I have an Ellowyne 2 Wigged out and would like to get her another wig or two (or four lol!) and have figured out that she takes a size 7/8 from what I read on ebay. Is this correct? And do I need to get her one of those plastic caps to prevent staining? She has the curly blonde and a dark auburn wigs, but I'd like to get a short, black crop and a long color like a bright red or pink maybe. Is wig staining a real problem with the Ellowynes?

Well, i can't tell you about the staining because I don't have an Ellowyne myself, but I can tell you that the way to determine wig size is to take a measuring tape and measure the head arount the wig line - meaning where the edge of the wig sits on the head. So from a point at the top of the forehead, around behind the ears, down to the bottom of the skull area, and back up again. In inches if it measures between 7 and 8 inches then she takes a 7-8 wig. The sizes are basically that measurement in inches :)

Ellowyn and Delilah Noir share the same head size; any wig listed as fitting Delilah will fit Ellowyn. She has a tiny head for an MSD and I find that wig size 5-6 fits better than wig size 6-7 although you can tighten some 6-7s to fit. They are the same size pretty much as Minifees and can wear the same wigs and outfits. I've not seen any wig staining with my Delilah Noir.

I have a whole bunch of Ellowynes and many are wigged. The original wigged Ells took a 7-8. Their heads were just a bit larger.

When Tonner changed to making some Ells with inset eyes, the head shrank a little bit. I don't know if it is a different mold or a different material, but my second edition wigged Ell's head is a 6-7 where my first one is a 7-8.

Of course, if a wig is really stretchy you might can go smaller or if one is very tight, vice-versa.

As far as staining, I have never had a problem with Ellowynes unless she had a black capped (the inner liner) wig that got wet for some reason. Then she got a small stain ring. The new white skintone Ellowynes also stain horribly (my Tell Tale Heart came in brand new looking like she was covered in bruises).

Highlander bought a couple of Ello wigs for his 50cm Megu when Wilde Imagination had a sale and she wore one (the royal purple one) for one day and it stained her head. So, it is something to think about.

I have no idea why anyone would make a black wig cap. Shouldn't they be skintone anyway?

*sigh*

Congrats on your dolly. She is a pretty one.

Thank you all for the quick responses! I did measure her head and it's exactly 7 inches, so I would think either the 6/7 or 7/8 will work. Since she's not pole dancing or doing gymnastics, I think if they come a bit large, it won't be a problem. :D (If I catch her pole dancing, I am going to have to have words with her about decorum!) My next project is a Lolita dress and I've chosen a fabric from Mary Engelbreit that is black with red cherries, so I'm leaning towards getting the red wig at the moment. The project after that will be a fairy costume and I'm in love with a white wig I spotted, so that won't pose a stain problem I believe. I may just get the cap for the red wig just in case.

Thank you all again!
