Elodie, now with a face up! Scroll down for pics

Postby 1/6andtinylover » Wed Jul 13, 2011 8:20 pm

My order from MoC arrived today! It consisted of eye putty, eye lashes, elastic cord and beautiful cyan eyes. So now she has eyes, but there are 2 problems...

1. The elastic cords didn't work out with the stringing I was going to give her. That was the conclusion after spending a good hour or two yanking elastics through her legs and torso. Now my fingers look kinda red. Well, at least she has properly strung arms. But her shoulders can't hold a pose so yay, seuding time.

2. The flat back eyes are a pain. I got them because the round version wasn't available. It's so annoying to position them.

Other than that, she still needs a face up, which I might do tomorrow depending on the weather (today's weather was perfect but I couldn't because I had other stuff to do, and her wig is on its way. I might try myluck finding someproper elastic cords at a hobby store (our local JoAnns doesn't have those. FML.) and some Tamiya Acrylic gloss thingies. Better find some plivers as well.

Speaking of face up, I'm going to use synthetic lashes for her bottom lashes. Did anyone else try this? And what can I do to make the lash length even as possible? Also, I'm using Testors for sealant. Should I spray 1 coat about 10-12 inches away or 2 coats farther away?

Mihika has synthetic bottom lashes, but only on about half of the lid. I find that if the lashes are shorter toward the inside corner of the eye then they look better, but that's just me...

The lashes I got already had that sort of shape so it's not going to be too problematic so long as I stick the lower lashes deeper in the eye sockets.

Yeah, a crappy beginner face up but a face up nonetheless. I ended up using all dry colors because I probably wasn't using the thinner properly. Also, I changed my plan and drew on her lower lashes

The reason why the first pic looks okay is because it was under natural light, and the reason why the second one doesn't look like crap even under weird orange light is because of the upper lashes. Seriously, it's like having upper lashes make everything look better. It's not too clear from the pics, but I failed at the mouth. Testors hated me and didn't let the pastels stick on. And there was this random, longish patch on the mouth that refused to get colored in but it didn't show up in the pics. The open mouth effect was sort of ditched and the inside wasn't painted white.

So the conlclusion is....the face up was bad, but being photogenic, having synthetic upper lashes and eyes solve that. Upper lashes FTW.

Oh yeah, and Testors sucked. Maybe it's just me but whenever I got a good amount on, the thing turned shiny and if I didn't, the coat was uselessly thin. So now she has this waxy sheen, which I don't mind but I will try her face up again after I get some ZM spray (as I'm impatient and probably can't wait for 2 coats of MSC to dry before I attempt to do the face up).

I use testors for my faceups and I've never had an issue. Did you make sure to wash Elodie before applying the Testors?

Was it done in humid, sticky weather? That could have affected the way it was drying. Also, did you spray directly on her face or with a nice sweeping motion from a few inches away?

I did sort of wash her but apparently there was still moisture in the creases and stuff because Testors frosted up. I wasn't the one spraying, but my dad sprayed it pretty far away and sort of dipped the head into the mist or tried to catch the remaining mist after the spray. Apparently that didn't work. Next time I'm going to get a respirator and do it myself even though I'm a bit young. The weather was sort of humid but not as much as other days (it gets annoyingly hot over here at Iowa).

*cough* I have a confession...I don't use a respirator when I'm using sealant...I put a bandana over my face. However, I always stand upwind. I test the direction of the wind before I spray. Because of that, I don't think I've ever inhaled it. I don't even know what it smells like! I would use one if I were doing mods on resin, though...

LOL, to be quite honest, I don't think I'll ever end up using respirators. Maybe hold my breath and spray, shake the head madly in the air then go in but no real safety stuff probably. Those respirators are expensive...

Honestly they aren't too expensive. I have one and it was only $30.
