I'm thinking it has to do with the frequency of the voice some times. I just can't watch hours of toons like I could before the blow to the head, so it's nothing with them. As I haven't seen enough of the show I can't have an opinion but I'm not going to knock something that makes so many people happy without hurting anyone. And perhaps I was subjected to the MLP movie with the Schmooze that I've earned the right to never have to hear them again :P

I can't wait until the move is over so I can share my sister's herd of old school ponies. And I'd love to see some Pony-Monster crosses. I'm going to have 4 gals to remake and could use ideas.

Well speaking from the writerly point of view, the new MLP show is absolutely charming. The high squeaky voices do get on my nerves once in a while, but other than that, I think the whole show is adorable and incredibly NON commercial. Unlike the old show, this is not one giant excuse to sell toys. The plots are good and solid, and what's even better, they're cleverly written so that kids and adults can get the same jokes often on two different levels (like Rarity doing an entire Greta Garbo routine; kids won't know anything about Greta Garbo, but it's so over the top they'll find it funny, and adults will crack up at the "I vant to be alooooooooone.")

And hey, come on, this is the KIDS SHOW that somehow got the haters at 4Chan to love it...and start acting...nice. I mean, come on! 4Chan? NICE? They have to be doing something right.
All you damn kids get offa my lawn!

It would be nice to know there are some kids out there checking in to Garbo movies.

OMG Christopher Walker doll? *dies* I was scheduled to do a zombie flick and was going to get to eat him in it. How awesome is that? But then someone pulled the budget and the film was cancelled. I have been bummed about it ever since. :<

also I just found out my husband is apparently a broney. Of course he would be into them and not dolls. :/ But he actually gave an opinion On Faun this morning. I near fainted. it was negative but an opinion none the less. And He may be helping me finish his faceup and bodyblush. So I suppose I won't divorce him for the pony thing. ^_~

The only thing I will say on the new ponies (since obviously I do like them) is that, unlike the last two reboots, the look and personality of the new show was created BY a pony fan, someone who grew up with the first run, and who actually intended it to be all original 80s ponies in the show. Lauren Faust created it even before she was contacted by Hasbro. In fact, if what I read is correct, SHE contacted THEM to make the show. It is all fan driven, it listens to what people online say and keeps the adult community in mind when working on new episodes, and even the toy line. Derpy is evidence of that. She was an animation error someone spotted and thought was funny, and now she is an actual recurring character with a job and personality, and she is getting her own toy (though under the name Ditzy Doo I heard)

Btw, for those into the 80s ponies, this was Lauren Faust's original pitch before Hasbro anounced they had no copyright to most of the old ponies.
G1 Twilight (now Twilight Sparkle, fused with G3 Twilight Twinkle)
G1 Suprise (Pinkie Pie, fused with G3 Pinkie Pie of course and lost wings)
G1 Posey (Fluttershy, fused with G3 Fluttershy and given wings)
G1 Firefly (Rainbow Dash, fused with G3 Rainbow Dash)
G1 Sparkler (Rarity, fused with G3 Rarity)
G1 Applejack and Spike were the only ones Hasbro still owned the rights to, so they stayed the same.

You can find Lauren Faust's original art out there from that first pitch btw, and see how the characters now are exactly what she came up with, with simple color swaps and some wing switching around.
(Jeez this got long. Sorry!)

I'm Waiting for Shera to emerge looking like a trashy thick lined half anime Paris Hilton wannabe wearing jeans and toting a cell phone naow.

At least Thundercats got lucky.

I mean don't get me wrong I LIKE that they are trying remakes but every one save Thundercats has failed horribly imo.

So much for new ideas and explaining why I can't sell a script. Why does everything have to have a Flash or Animae look to it?

SECRET BUTT FUN.

*cough*

And Sillylilpuppet, this chart someone did illustrates your point perfectly... (though I laugh since the original Twilight design was used for Twilight Sparkle's mum...)

(Though... it makes me wonder if Pinkie Pie is Surprise's Grand daughter, cuz being a quarter pegasus would explain how she keeps up with rainbow Dash...)

*shrug* Flash Animation seems to be the way these days, but at the very least they manage to keep their own style and flare for today's audience. I've noticed a trend with 80s fanboys that hate new reboots of any franchise despite the original being merchandise driven and if the new series changes anything at all. Like the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. I'm a big fan of the 2003 version cuz I grew up on it, but I got savagely attacked on a youtube tribute video cuz my version was stupid, I must have been in high School and that the new version utterly sucked for not being ZOMG EXACTLY like the old series. Except when I pointed out it had good points as well, I was OBVIOUSLY TAINTED BY THE NEW VERSION.

*shrug* I honestly do not see the problem of a series' reboot if it adds something different and creative to the franchise. With My Little Pony, this new reboot has shown that a girl's TV show can be girly but not vapid, that girl's stuff can be a legitimate viewing and it can actually be for everyone. Admittedly, 80s tv shows have not aged very well. They're kind of jarring and outdated and even if people grew up on this, the new reboots aren't for them. It's for today's kids and whatever periphery audience they pick up.

Guess what I was lookin at while writing that all xD

Also might I add, even as an 80s/90s kid I very very very seldom saw the original run of MLP cartoons (there technically were more than one, but they merged). I did, however, have the actually fairly good Firefly's Adventure movie that came with my Firefly toy. The animation looks a bit nicer than the cartoons had, and it didn't have the 'omg guys something SILLY has happened!' plot like the cartoons either. It had ponies being captured by an evil horned creature and turned into hellhorses to pull his flaming chariot. No, really, that happened. I don't know if only having seen that is affecting whether I like the new show or not, though it seems very popular with the hardcore pony fans that saw every episode.

Also, random, but Lauren Faust's style for the show, and most of her other work in general, really reminds me of Mary Blair. Once I realized that, I could not stop picturing Pinkie Pie singing 'Its A Small World'.

Lol, except you say you haven't given the shows an actual chance cuz you dislike the animation style. I think the new My Little Pony is semi successful at least..

Lol I'm a 90s kid so everything rehashed to me is ZOMG POSTMODERN AND REINTERPRETATIONS and such, lol. It's actually fun to see franchises like Transformers and My Little Pony being brought back down to Earth a tad since I've grown up with them so ingrained in pop culture that they're almost parodies of what they actually are.

Lauren Faust seems a very down to Earth person and I wouldn't be surprised to see she's an ascended fangirl...
