Today I was in a room filled with adorable kittens. And it was grand. And I was close to stuffing one in my purse and taking it home.

So...close....

heeheeheehee.... oh this is a fun website. Apparently basic grammar and Stephanie Meyer don't mix.

That's hilarious. It reminds me of http://xlormp.livejournal.com/, which shamelessly pokes fun at the Twilight series.

Yep, of course that's probably one of the reasons I don't watch any episodic television. Heck, for that matter, it's been almost three years since I last read any fiction!

Sad thing is, a lot of it is supposed to be silly. There are a few major narrative points that I can't work out for myself. It's too big to employee a simple hand wave.

Some of the problem is also the introduction of sci-fi elements into what had previously been a "here and now" narrative.

*EDIT: I sat down and discussed this with my wife, who is a voracious reader and a much more avid fiction fan than me. She couldn't offer any suggestions on how to tie the plot elements together so I'm calling this one a write-off and officially dead.

Sometimes incompetent hacks make it into very high positions in their chosen fields and engender very high regard from their fans. The blatant fact that they are horrible at what they do means nothing to those who adore them and will apologize for them, no matter what. Those of us who can't understand the appeal, who never could be convinced by the hype to begin with, remain baffled and confused by such enduring popularity and rabid apologia. "Anyone with half a brain could see right through this crap" we protest but either that isn't the case or there are a lot of people with less than half a brain functioning in the world. Why do they buy this stuff, support and defend it? There is no answer and likely, there will never be one.

Oh, and I can't figure out the deal with Twilight either.

You can always have doll logic explain the unexplainable, like a wizard did it. Another useful exercise may be to do a bare bones Choose Your Own Adventure of any story you're stuck on. It helped me work out a Spider-Man idea I've spent the better part of this century entertaining. I have good ideas, they just keep fraying at the edges, what if it went this way or that? You can still funnel it in to the directions you want. I have one 'ending' that goes to a strait forward story with no choices, others bounce you around so you don't know when you are in the time line until you get a few more pages along.

I actually sat down with a couple of the books and charted where they went, one beginning, several main forks in the road, most treed out to dead ends, a couple sent you back to the main fork, a few went 'sideways' or jumped you to certain parts in the story or time line.

Had a vampire come up to the door last night, at first I couldn't tell what he was, then he went "rawr, I'm a vampire" and flashed his fangs. I then said, "oh that's great, and you don't sparkle either!" He then laughed and thanked me was very happy looking. :D
A hobby isn't supposed to leave you wistful, regretful and vaguely disappointed. BJD collecting is as customizable as the dolls themselves. Do whatever pleases you the most, because otherwise, why do it at all? All for the 'Gram Bitches love the 'Gram.

I am happy to say I have never read Ms. Meyer, but the http://reasoningwithvampires.tumblr.com site is wonderful. I love it that someone is doing this.
I've been working as a copy editor for the last year (until becoming redundant), and people just don't care if they can't write basic English anymore. My boss had the following posted on her wall:
1. Let's eat Grandma.
2. Let's eat, Grandma.
3. Punctuation saves lives.

I'm taking a writing class for the first time. The week before last we talked about when to call it quits and move on. We talked about beats, conflict, and all that jazz. She said that if the beats don't make sense, then it's time to back up to where they do make sense and find out where we went wrong. I hate letting go of fun ideas, but now that I'm writing the weekly assignments I can see how not everything works the way I hope it will. I hope you solve your story dilemmas. Maybe going back to the drawing board will allow for a whole new blend on your concepts. Sometimes starting over yields wonderful results.
