I've actually been forced to not talk about Twilight because I go into these irrational, hour long rants on it. lol I just... the grammar... the word choices...the characters...the overall message to teenage readers....!!!! I just... why!? WHY I ASK YOU?

My mom's friend is a teacher and I consider her a very educated woman, until she said she loved Twilight. I..what...but...brain cells...dead... I'm no published writer, I NEED an editor to look at anything I write because I know I'm poor at it, but I have read a vast amount of books that top Twilight to such an extent where I don't even understand how it got so popular when there's so much other fantastic novels. I have read sappy, historical romances that do better on character development.

Interestingly, I think the same "fluff factor" that drives so many Twilight detractors to despair might also be a selling point. My wife is a voracious reader and a big fan of the vampire genre so, of course, she's read the books. According to her, it's pretty much the same level of reading as say a Harlequin romance or the umpteenth Danielle Steele novel. A collection of well-worn tropes and fairly predictable plot points that are heavy on escapism and light on any redeeming literary qualities.

OMG! No way! No way no way. Have they no clue? The original wolfman is ... AH! Wow, going to stop right there. Not even going to rant. This is just hilarious. No sense of history.

Yes. There is a market for everything. And I almost feel bad, I don't mean to insult people that do like Twilight. My mother in law and sister in law both read and loooooove it. I refrain from shredding the stories in their presence. I love vampire stories, particularly the older 80's slash-'em up types. I just don't view "vampmeyers" to be really "vampirish" at all. I find myself preferring John Steakley and more recently, Charlaine Harris. It's just that Anne Rice turned them into something quite different. The repercussions are a kinder, gentler vampire. hahaha... they "lose their bite." har har har...

Right now I'm reading "Vampire Empire" by Clay and Susan Griffith. I met them at Dragon*Con and subsequently bought both their books. So far, it's really unique. Steampunk, the year 2020, and vampires. Classic bloodsuckers too. Gotta love it.

PLEASE READ

Ok kids, I am given to understand that some posts have been deleted because a certain discussion regarding liking/disliking etc... of the Twilight series has begun to get out of hand.

Please remember that while we do have these nice threads for random non-dolliehness their purpose is not to engender virulent discussions on the merits (or lack thereof) of whatever current flick is top of the pop charts (so to speak). It's ok to agree to disagree, but lets not let emotions run high publically. If y'all want to start getting heated, take it to your PMs please, or better yet, take it to a topical forum where you can get the entire place divided half and half like an old Burger King commercial and end up rumbling in the streets to a broadway song and dance routine.

Yes, I'm poking fun, but only a little. Keep things in perspective please.

And remember, while we by no means are the avid thread killers that certain other forums are, I and the mods do reseverve the right to zap contentious postings into the oblivion of the cloud if we deem it necessary.

I now return you to your regularly scheduled randomness.

Well some dollieh reelated rant then because it makes no sense. Mind if I rant abit? I just got a PM from my BFF...She asks me if I can have my mom buy her a BJD when today I just got denied that very thing....Oh sure she'll buy you that forty dollar one when a ten buck one isn't even in my price range right now.

No please either...I love that girl like a sister but really giving me the silent treatment after statingg I couldn't do that and having a cold was nessecery?

If my mom told me pretty much for the past two weeks I don't need a new BJD got denied a Liv that was ten bucks and an Ula D killer style that was thirteen...Why will my mother spend her money on you and buy you a forty dollar set?

Gah, is it normal to have hard time figuring out characters someone created themselves? Because I can't figure out what this character's personality is. She's one of the main characters and the one who's been around longest. It's like having a finicky dollieh, except that it's hard to swap out hairstyles or eye colors after getting so used to one character design.

At least she doesn't drain my wallet...well, that's until I decide that it would be cool to turn them into dolls.
The ever growing wishlist: Hujoo Dana, Obitsu 40, and an army of other Obitsus with anime style heads.
The more expensive end of my wishtlist: Limhwa Half Elf and Elfdoll Soah, my dream dolls.

-facepalm- Sorry to hear that that, Alopecia... though I will admit it did make me snort, because I was discussing that same sort of personality with a friend just the other day... The type that act as though everything should be handed to them.

My own randomness? One of my doll-friends and I were discussing... and it has come to light that February 2nd will mark one year since I ordered my very first doll... And when that day comes along, there is a strong, strong possibility that I will have 6 dolls. Apparently, my enabler friends have created a monster.

Yeah, it took a few years for me to even begin to imagine Claire (the titular "author" of Claire's Big World) as more than a background character that was sort parody. And as I mentioned a few pages back, I'd been having some trouble coming up with reasons for plot points in a photo story idea I was working on. Some of that seemed to stem from me not fully understanding the characters.

It's alright...I think she snuck on and got caught but I didn't like that attitude...I mean I know she doesn't have much but she's already getting her doll's wig outta us and asking for something like...The Clawdeen Dead Tired Set when she knows I'm buying her an MH for Christmas and it's her favorite anyways.

I have a cold so a lot is getting on my nerves right now.

Happy rant: I just found out Hot Topic's website has a plethora of Hatsune Miku stuff.

I am a major Vocaloid fangirl nothing brings me out of a bad mood like World is Mine or Trick and Treat.

So I'm happy because I just made a very wise choice to edit my X-mas list down to one Liv doll and the MH fashion pack...And for extended relatives gift cards for Paypal, Hot Topic and Amazon.com...Because then I'll be able to buy whatever I really, really want like going on a shopping spree.

As Tallahassee from Zombieland once said: Gotta enjoy the little things.
(The fact that Hot Topic has tons of new Sailor Moon and Vampire Knight stuff makes me super happy too.)
