Dolls+Sewing Machine=Christmas Sweaters! (BBB/MDD/OB)

Postby AlmySidaKay » Sun Dec 18, 2011 10:59 pm

Soo... we celebrated Christmas early with the boyfriend's parents since we will be out of town over actual Christmas. Anyway, I got... a brand new sewing machine! And then, I promptly made Christmas sweaters and dresses for all my lovely dolliehs! Here is Evie and Miku showing off their new wear.

Thanks! I'm totally happy with how they turned out and a bit surprised because I didn't have high hopes for my first sewing projects. The boots are part of a Hearts 4 Hearts girls outfit that Gift_in_Edge gave me for my birthday. I love them they since they seem to fit all my girls. :D

I don't know about easier. Learning to use one properly is still very much an ongoing thing for me! Sewing is complicated on or off a machine, but definitely they make the things you make look 100% better! I love my Janome/New Home to bits!!! I'm going to do this. Make a sweatshirt or sweater of some sort soon. I haven't managed anything with sleeves though yet for the dolls. I look at patterns but they don't make all that much sense to me.

The doll skirt pattern I tried to use for my corset skirt was just baffling. It was unnecessarily complicated. I totally threw it away in the end. I'm actually doing better just measuring, kind of figuring things out how things work, then making my own simpler patterns from tracing paper.

I really like the convenience of the machine stitching and it's worlds neater than my hand sewing ever was of course, but all the stuff you're "supposed" to do to sew things sometimes it just plain confuses me. I figured out how to add a button placket on my own and I think I've kind of got the idea of how sleeves work I just haven't gotten brave enough to attempt any as yet.

Sweaters seem like a nice, easy place to start...

I like the frog sweater!
I have so many dolls that I can't fit all their names in my signature anymore. @__@

I almost feel like I should have taken a photo of the socks before I bought them now, thanks again! It just is still kinda boggling my mind that the shirt she is wearing was a sock yesterday morning.
