Hello everyone,

So I kind of have my eye on the new Gia doll, but since I know next to nothing about Angelsdoll, I thought I'd ask some questions... I think she looks great, and I really think she'd make a great Maria from Silent Hill 2... anyway, my questions:

1. DOA has her as "Off Topic"...is there something wrong with her, some sort of defect that doesn't qualify her as a BJD?

2.What is the difference between the massive body and the slender body? I know there are some pics on the site, but I have to admit, being new, I still don't have the eye to visualize what the doll body will look like as the end product. I mean, the massive body doesn't look fat or anything to me. Can someone give me a real world comparison I can wrap my head around? Also, does the massive body make it harder to find them clothes?

3. I saw the site doesn't sell wigs! I really like the default wig they offer, but I guess it's only for pictures? What comes with the doll by default?

4. I noticed some dolls go "out of print". Are they all limited? What is the shelf life of a BJD there? I guess my real question is, "how long do I have to buy her?"

5. Can someone tell me about the difference between the regular skin and the volks compatible skin? Why would I want it to be volks compatible? Is the default skin tone not as nice?

6. Breast size - what's the difference between "big" and "normal" in practical terms? I don't want the dollfie dream dynamite syndrome, but I noticed that with some dolls the larger bust size allows them to wear skirts that the smaller ones don't get to.

7. Does anyone have a point of reference between the long legs and the regular legs?

8. Any other Angelsdoll owners care to give me their pros and cons of the doll as they see it?

Thanks everyone!

There was a big topic about Angelsdoll Gia being off-topic a while ago:

Hi! I recently purchased 2 AD dolls so I can answer some of your inquiries:

1. DOA has her as "Off Topic"...is there something wrong with her, some sort of defect that doesn't qualify her as a BJD?
The link Evelien-san provided, pretty much says it all, but basically, DoA finds her too 'western' looking to be on-topic.

I didn't buy the female dolls but the massive bodies are more muscular, beefy and larger in every way. If you're looking for a female from AD, I'd definitely go with the slim body as the AD girl heads are on the small side and look slightly pinheaded on the massive bodies.

3. I saw the site doesn't sell wigs! I really like the default wig they offer, but I guess it's only for pictures? What comes with the doll by default?
The dolls come with nothing but a box and a pillow (a very nice pillow, too!). No wig, no eyes, no clothing. (Really nice wigs are available from Monique Gold here: http://www.facetsbymarcia.com/wigshop.htm )

4. I noticed some dolls go "out of print". Are they all limited? What is the shelf life of a BJD there? I guess my real question is, "how long do I have to buy her?"
I'm not sure, but I think even if she's not on their site for sale anymore, if you inquire via email personally, they can make some allowances for you and do a custom order. I wanted a 1st version slim male body, though it was no longer on their site for sale, and they easily accomodated my request. Can't say it goes for everything, though. ^^;;

5. Can someone tell me about the difference between the regular skin and the volks compatible skin? Why would I want it to be volks compatible? Is the default skin tone not as nice?
Normal skin is more pinkish than Volks Normal skin. I bought the Volks Compatible normal and it's very yellowtoned. The bodies I was needing to match (I planned to mix and match the heads and bodies with ones I already had), were yellowish, so I wanted yellowish more than pink. However, keep in mind, their Volks skintone is very yellowish and very bright/light. It's not a bad compatibility with some of the more yellow toned bjds, but it's a bit....lighter? Maybe...brighter? It's very pretty, though, but just know, it's very yellowish. No pinkish in it at all.

6. Breast size - what's the difference between "big" and "normal" in practical terms? I don't want the dollfie dream dynamite syndrome, but I noticed that with some dolls the larger bust size allows them to wear skirts that the smaller ones don't get to.
Sorry, I didn't get girl dolls, so I can't help you but I do know that from making costumes and clothing for dolls, normal is almost always nicer and better in clothes than large busted. (At least, in my opinion, but....^^;;)

7. Does anyone have a point of reference between the long legs and the regular legs?
I didn't even know they had different leg lengths!! Wow!

8. Any other Angelsdoll owners care to give me their pros and cons o
f the doll as they see it?

I think they're super well made dolls and very beautiful! Such detail in the sculpting! (The boys even have spines and little bones in the back of their necks, etc!) I absolutely recommend them and they got my order to me in 15 days!!!! They pose nicely, though, I did find a tendency for the waist stomach joint to pop (as many bjd bodies do) but the sculpting and jointing make up for that one flaw, so I don't mind it! Great, great dolls!

1. DOA has her as "Off Topic"...is there something wrong with her, some sort of defect that doesn't qualify her as a BJD?

There is nothing wrong with her. The moderators of Den of Angels have decided that the Gia's face did not fit in with the look of other on-topic dolls; strange as that seems.

2.What is the difference between the massive body and the slender body? I mean, the massive body doesn't look fat or anything to me. Also, does the massive body make it harder to find them clothes?

The massive body is roughly the size of a generic male body in comparison with standard female bodies. This makes it difficult to find standard female clothing for it. Someone posted a picture at DOA a while ago.
NSFW comparison picture here
The massive female body is on the left followed by a Bobobie 60cm male body (modded) and some standard girl bodies from other companies. The massive body is large, hence it's name.
The slender female body seen here (the head is from a different company) is a standard size and will be easy to buy clothes for.

3. What comes with the doll by default?

At this time their dolls don't come with anything but their shipping pillows. Angelsdoll does sell extremely high quality urethane eyes on their site though.

However you will have to ask them what eye size and wig size the doll takes. Angelsdoll is still only starting and doesn't quite seem to know what information to put out there for customers yet.

4. "how long do I have to buy her?"

I don't think even Angelsdoll knows for sure.

5. Can someone tell me about the difference between the regular skin and the volks compatible skin? Why would I want it to be volks compatible?

Color comparisons

People will often hybrid doll parts from different companies together. Many companies use Volks resin colors as a standard so that you can put a head, hands or feet from one company on an Angelsdoll body or vice versa.

6. Breast size - what's the difference between "big" and "normal" in practical terms?

In the female massive body the difference is subtle, they did not go with the cartoon chest balloons. You can see this on their site. I don't know about their slim body though. I can't find any proper pictures to show you.

7. Does anyone have a point of reference between the long legs and the regular legs?

Accord to a message on their official message board, the long legs are 1cm longer. *laughs* Wow what an option.

8. Any other Angelsdoll owners care to give me their pros and cons of the doll as they see it?

I don't think anyone has a Gia yet but Angelsdoll bodies have been bought and enjoyed for hybrids. Most people are pleased with the quality (feel and weight) of the resin. The seam lines are minimal, the dolls pose reasonable well.

I have read some unfortunate experiences. One person received a doll head with holes in his ears because the resin there was thin. Some have remarked that the resin around the eyes were thin. Some one who ordered a massive male body said it arrived with a broken part near the knee. In every single instance though Angelsdoll replaced the broken parts immediately without charge.

~*~
My own experience: I have an Angelsdoll Shakan in "vivid skin" - a sort of milky tea color. Matches mine! He arrived whole with no breaks. He is very big and very heavy yet poses beautifully. I haven't noticed any thin spots around his eyes.

I also own a gray skin Violet head. It's gorgeous. The details are much more fine than I expected. If you like your dolls to have a more realistic look Angelsdoll is definitely for you.

I hope this has helped.

Wow...thank you! This all really helped! I'm sad about the massive body, I actually like that thicker, more mature look, but now I worry about clothes. I'll have to do a lot of thinking.

Also thanks on the tip of asking for wig and eye size! Totally didn't think of that.

But yes, I really like the more realistic look
