Sign of the times- I'm a bit bummed that an acquaintance, Xavier's muse, deactivated his Facebook account, and it was his invite who got me there in the first place. Not that he ever used it but it was fun seeing the occasional pictures his friends posted of their camping trips and being one of several hundred people to wish him a happy birthday. Got the occasional inspiration from it. I can still get in touch with him other ways and we never communicated outside of the rare real life work thing.

I should have known being a Dominion War bride would never work once he got his Federation citizenship :p

I've been reading a chapter-by-chapter summary of the 50 Shades Of Grey book and...

WOW

That book is really bad. Not just poor writing/grammar bad. Really bad as in it gives the wrong impression of BDSM, glorifies rape culture, and just shugs at child abuse. I'm really upset to know that this book has been making rounds in the media in a positive light and everyone is saying to "read it it's amazing!" From what I've seen, no, actually it's NOT.

Is it true that Fifty Shades started out as a raunchy Twilight fanfic? I've heard that from a couple of different sources now.
When the patron requests started coming in at work, I looked up the summary of the book. O_o I know there are people who carefully practice BDSM and are satisfied by doing so...but the description of the book just sounded creepy.

Doing bad things induces at least a moderate level of guilt and makes people feel shame. So to make themselves feel better (because we're all about feelings) they decide the rules governing what is/isn't good and bad are outmoded and they'd rather make up their own rules for what is right and wrong. And this is the result in our culture. Very sad.
