Good Deal On MT's....

TRU online store is still running a clearance on a lot of the Moxie Teenz stuff. There are a few first and last wave dolls left for $15 a pop and more importantly there are a bunch of the better wigs for them priced at $5, including the Afro wig, the two tone poof wig (which is actually very cute in person) and the two harder to find mixed first wave wigs. As a general rule I find the first MT doll wigs, the ones actually on the first run dolls, a bit lacking though later with series 2 and 3 the quality improved quite a bit. I've never found one sold separately packaged though that wasn't worth the $5. That last run of wigs in particular I thought was actually quite nice.

I have the two tone poof and the pink and blond and both of them were nice and thick. I do as a general rule I do tend to give any MT or Liv doll wig a wash and condition. They seem to shape up and look much better when I do. Even the thin first run doll wigs came out better for a wash and set. But other than my first Melrose wig and my first Tristan wig most of the ones I have are decent. That Afro wig I've seen going for $20. The poof too. There won't be any more MT or Liv wigs so this might be your last chance to grab these at this price. Just an FYI. They fit most 16" fashion dolls too. It definitely beats paying $20-40 for a wig from Tonner or Monique. I'm going to miss both of these lines of dolls for that reason. It was really nice while it lasted. My 16" dolls have a pretty nice wig wardrobe now thanks to the Liv's and MT's.

No, both the Liv doll line and the Moxie Teenz are discontinued which means that unless someone else starts making cheap wigs what's on the shelves now is the last of them. No more dolls, no more $5 wigs. I'm kind of glad I always ran to Target/Walmart the minute they released the new Liv wigs actually. Our TRU here is way across town from me and they hardly ever have anything. I got most of them while they were out, even the hard to find red wigs. The only one I really wanted but never scored was the lime green wig they did in the first wig 2 packs and they never did do another one in that color solo. I didn't like the two light aqua ones they did.

I eventually ended up doing my own for green and aqua out of the blond dance wig for Sophie. The green one went okay, but the aqua one was hard actually. I had a really hard time getting a wig just the right color. I wanted mine a pretty dark two tone aqua and blue. It took me two tries with two different blond wigs and I had to use acrylic and two different brands of markers to finally get it made. I still have about 3 extra blond Sophie dance wigs that I am going to try to make colored wigs out of. I just haven't quite decided what colors I am going to go for with those. I have pink several times over, pink and blond, pink and black, a couple of pink and purple, straight purple, aqua and blue, blue and black, blue and blond, orange red, burgundy red, copper red and brown (I bought 5 of those. I loved that first copper and brown wig. Snagged every one they had on the shelf at 3 Targets!) tons of brown wigs, black wigs, blond wigs, just about every color they had Liv or MT.

I always went all out on those wigs because I can't really afford to pay $20 plus for the Monique ones and I wanted my 16" girls, my Livs and My MTs to have a whole bunch of wigs. I always figured getting 4 or 5 wigs for the cost of one Monique made it well worth it. At this point I'm running out of colors to make out of those Sophie wigs. I'm seriously considering doing black and white striped and a rainbow wig just to be silly. Probably I should do another bright red and orange red mix up of some kind too. I was thinking of trying something like that one style Wynona Judd was sporting for a while there. It was made up of about 5 different shades of red and nearly made her look like her head was on fire. It was very fake but I really liked it. I'm still thinking I might pick up another orange red wig from the Color dolls and the Brites orange wig if I happen to get a good deal on those. I haven't seen another orange red wig though that wasn't messed up and the brites doll is $20. I want that long orange wig but I'm just not sure I'm willing to pay $20 for it, Otherwise I'm not that crazy about that doll so....

I hear you on the Brights dolls. I want the long purple and pink wigs for my Anthy and Utena but I don't want to pay all that. The good thing is at that price I don't see them moving but they are going to have to drop those prices soon to make room for the new doll lines that are gonna be out this fall.

I'd say buy them as soon as they reach what you consider a reasonable price and take what you want from them then store the bods or sell them, someone somewhere always wants parts. Or do you have a kid you could pass the spare parts on to come holiday time? I had a neighbor girl who was so doll-less that she nearly exploded when I gave her my unwanted playline dolls.

I have a little sister and a couple of beach Katies and a beach Hayden so I am sure I can figure something out. Just this December I gave her a redressed swapping styles Artsy Fashionista since I had only wanted her dress and jewelry.

MT wigs got here this evening. They're all intact and looking good. No duds. Arizona looks great in the two-tone poof wig, though this one isn't hardly poofed unlike the first. I kind of like that actually. That it's not quite as big as the first one I got. Less Jersey more class. I actually took the first one totally out of the poof to make it look better. It was rooted very thickly and looked better as a long hair wig so having one that still has the sides pulled up and back but not poofed is nice.

The long brunette wig with the pulled back braids is now on my Sabrina and she's looking great finally. MA really has been using terrible hair on their 16" dolls of late. I already had used the other two toned former poof on her twin and I like Suzette as a brunette better than as a redhead actually so Sabrina also being a brunette too actually works for me. It's two very different looks so it's going to work very well with them being twins. The red hair was pretty in color but really didn't flatter her much otherwise. The cut was blah and the quality of the hair was just not nice. It was very flyaway. I spent more time trying to keep her hair looking okay than it was worth.

The White Queen wig is now on Nicole one of my OOAK MT's and it works very nicely and my Bijou is so totally rocking her Afro wig it's just awesome. I always wanted to put that wig on her and it's great finally having it for her though I am beginning to think Bijou could wear a plastic bag on her head still look good. That doll is just plain gorgeous. That dark skin tone really works with the MT sculpt and for some reason it also makes the legs on the MT dolls look better. She's like Iman or something this doll. She's got exactly the same sculpt and legs as any other MT doll but she still looks like a supermodel for some reason. I'm so glad I got that Bijou instead of one of the other two slightly lighter ones.

Speaking of skin tones, there's a post on Flick with all the dolls next to their counterparts? It was most enlightening, pun intended. It's not my imagination. There are significant skin tone differences between the wave one dolls and the dolls that came after and the last set has skin tone differences even with the same doll. Lyra and Leia are close but they're not identical even though they're both supposed to be Leigh. I've got 3 Tristan dolls and all of them have different enough skin tones that they look like totally different people when you see them together and it's not just that I painted the lips and changed the eyes on two. Ditto the 2 Melrose dolls and all the Bijou dolls also have different skin tones. The one in the sweater is a lot darker than the other two, The other two are lighter but even then they don't look identical. You could take all 3 Bijou dolls and make different people out of them very easily. The dye lots with these, it's like yarn. Same color supposedly but they can look very different in terms of the actual end result.

Change the makeup a bit on top of that and you can create quite a number of different MT characters without really trying too hard. I've got 10 and I think I'm likely going to stop at that unless I happen to find one for $2 at Goodwill or something but I could have probably gotten it up to like 15 dolls and not ended up with dolls that are too close to one another in skin tones to be believable as different characters. It's been kind of fun actually. I'm going to miss these dolls a lot. Making them all custom was fun. This is probably the closest I am going to get to having a BJD but having these I can see why they are so popular now...
