Art of the Doll: Protection, Healing, Power and Play

Opening July 16, Art of the Doll features works by 60 contemporary artists who present the doll as an expression of artistic, cultural, sociological and mythological creation.

Please join me for a book signing at the Petaluma Arts Center on July 17th, 2010 at 1:00 PM. This exhibit features doll artists from around the world. I was contacted by the curators to do a presentation, display and slide show about Asian Ball-Jointed Dolls. The official opening of the exhibit will be a 4 PM that afternoon.

The Arts Center is a lovely space and they present very high-quality, professional exhibits. This exhibit is curated by a woman who is a psychology professor at Sonoma State University. She teaches a class called "The Psychology of Dolls". The other curator is from the San Francisco Folk Art Museum.

Petaluma Arts Center is located at 230 Lakeville Street in Petaluma (in the old railroad depot complex). There is a suggested donation of $5.

Please come and bring a doll so the Asian Ball-Jointed Doll community can have a presence at this show! The first 10 people to arrive with a ball-jointed doll will receive a flowered head wreath for their doll. I will be giving out goodie bags with cards and Japanese candy as well. :)

Hope to see you there!

A little bump and reminder that the show is this weekend. I will be there from 1:00 on and doing a slide show right around then. If you're around please come and represent the BJD community!!! I have goody bags, Japanese candy, and the first ten people showing up with BJDs get a flowered wreath for their doll's head.

So, the fact that I have absolutely no idea where Petaluma is tells me that I'm probably nowhere near it. ^^;

Otherwise, I'd love to show up tomorrow lugging a doll or five with me. XD

:)

I had no idea that most people don't know where Petaluma is! It's a very quaint, good-sized town in Northern CA. Famous because of Charle's Schulz's references to it in Peanuts, the International Arm Wrestling Championship held there, used to be the center of the chicken/egg industry in Northern CA. Also, sadly, the place where Polly Klaus was kidnapped from her bedroom during a slumber party while her mother slept in the next bedroom- a world famous case that resulted in better communication between law enforcement in missing children cases.
