bjdbaby? Probably not legit, but asking just in case...

Woah... Just found the tumblr page after curiosity got the better of me... o.O seriously? Since when were recasts such a massive thing? Kinda worried about the 2nd hand market now if they're so prevalent...
My initial reaction was to form a list of why it's probably not a good idea
1) Harming the original manufacturer
2) No idea what the hell went into that batch of resin (Though admittedly - when you consider that most "resin" cough*plastic* cough is produced in the less concerned about health and safety than we are countries in the oceania regions of the far east that's really not saying much...
3) Having seen rip-offs of other stuff, I hold out no hope for any quality control - since the original manufacturers sometimes have issues
But having said all of that I really wouldn't condemm anyone with as much vitriol as DoA seems to have right now - that place seems like an even scarier and stranger place than it did when I 1st got into this hobby...

erm yeah... some of those people sound like they are actually willing to kill anyone who would buy a recast. It's not right, but I wouldn't go so far as to say I'd hate someone for buying one.

In that response email, what the heck are they trying to say about the copyright? That doesn't make any sense to me at all. Sounds like they are trying to say that what they are doing is somehow legal.

XD Thanks!
I was thinking about asking if anyone here dev'd on IMVU! Are you OkamiKodomo on there too?

I'm taking a break from meshing, so haven't submitted anything for a while. Was planning on taking off till at least the end of the summer. I was supposed to get a lot of painting done during the break, but I got really sidetracked with the dolls....

Haha yep, anywhere you see the name OkamiKodomo, it's probably me. I used to be a member of d3viant-d3signs, but then dreamboy3 got unreliable when it came time to sell my credits, so I'm switching over to lisnevashe. Been a dev since 2006, but only really started taking it seriously a year or so after starting. I've been kinda 'eh' on it lately, but I do still dink around with it from time to time.

Back on topic, kinda... I'm totally scared to buy any of the listed dolls on that website via the second hand market now. Which is really a shame, because I had my eye on some Chrom parts. I have 3 dolls from the DoA market, though one of them was from Almy, so I KNOW that one's real.

Unlike the ForeverDoll fiasco years ago who's resin was brittle, chalky and painted a flesh color - newer rips offs use resin that is similar quality to what is standard for dolls now. I read a review that compared an original Unoa to a rip-off one and the only difference turned out to be in the size rather than the quality. The recast doll will always be a few millimeters smaller.

This particular fraudster goes so far as to make fake certificates of authenticity to go with their Soom rips offs.

It's really outrageous in the full meaning of the word. Imagining this in the secondhand markets gives me a chill. You pay the high prices for an original because you love the artwork, respect the company and in some cases you like the prestige that comes with the brand. Imagine finding out that what you payed top dollar for is a fake?

I'm glad you're going with Lisnevash! He's great :D He's been my reseller the whole time I've been a dev.

I saw one thing somewhere that some dolls have a kind of stamp mark inside or on the back of their head or on them somewhere and the recasts are not as sharp and clear as they are on originals, so that's a way some can be checked.... but like an idiot I didn't bookmark the post when I saw it, so I can't go back and check which doll(s) it was.

I can actually comment on the quality of at least one recast (who was purchased totally unknowingly, please don't rip my head off <_<) - she's got amazing resin quality, and even had her seams sanded! There aren't any poor-fitting parts, there was just a weak spot on a joint that got chipped.

I've got to say, though, if any of those faceups on the non-stock photos are theirs, they have very nice faceups. I like them, at least! And I do like the tan resin color their 'beryl' has.

Not that recasts are good, mind you. Just an observation.

Ha, I would never rip anyone's head off for unknowingly buying a recast. I was a victim of the ForeverDoll fiasco and it still bothers me.

If I'm not getting off topic and you don't mind answering, what went on with that? I know they're banned but it sounds like a lot went down - did you get anything for what you paid or was it just flat out take-your-money-and-run? I'm just really curious.
