I know. I don't think I'm their super special volunteer. I was just told to go in the morning and clean, hours aren't set. So, I told them when it came up that when 12 rolls around and customers start coming in my anxiety kicks in and I start freaking out. (its in a petsmart) It affects my work. When I signed up I was led to believe I didn't have to interact with customers. I know it sounds like a bunch of BS falling from my mouth, but it is the truth and I am trying to get over it, the cats are like a therapy. :/ by 6 someone did take the day and I'm doing their Sunday for them. Probably will bring in bagels or something when the adoption hours are on.

I think my mom may have caught a cold which is really bad because she's on a 20 day radiation treatment to help shrink some tumors blocking her bladder. So all last night she was up coughing and throwing up and there's nothing I can do.
It hurts so bad to not be able to do anything for her.

It's like - every time we think she's beat this stupid cancer it just pops up somewhere else in her body.

is there a cancer navigator where she is getting treatment? if there is, she or he might be able to give you some advice to help you get thru this.

Oh happyknot, I'm so sorry

My mum's not doing very well either right now, but it looks like she'll get better soon.. she had surgery three times the past few months now. On Feb 29th she fell and broke her hip and shoulder, then in May she had back surgery and because her hip didn't heal at all and she was in a lot of pain, she had surgery yesterday to get a new hip. Surgery went okay but she lost a lot of blood and she's not feeling too well. I hope the rest of the year will be a bit more quiet for her . She's been through so much pain and accidents the past 10 years.

Contacting the cancer "navigator" is a good suggestion. My mom and I are finally finishing her 5th year of the breast cancer ride. Bless your heart for hanging in there with her. Stay strong. A mom's strength, hope, and humor comes from seeing the strength, hope and humor in her kids. It's so lovely that she's got a compassionate kiddo on her side!

Thank you guys. It really is hard on the heart when you can't ease your loved one's suffering.
There is SOME sort of good news today - my mom ended up going to emergency (not in an ambulance) because the swelling in her abdomen had become so bad she couldn't even drink anything. They drained 4L of fluid out of her!

She is looking and feeling much better because of this and was able to eat solid food for dinner.

That makes me feel a lot better too. She's acting more like herself again.

Evelien I feel for you and your mom. That sounds so, so very painful.

I'm so sorry for those of you that have loved ones with health problems
I definitely know how hard it is to not be able to do anything for someone that you love while they suffer... I'm so scared of my mother getting sick or dying some day. Really I hope I go first hehe.

We were all devastated when my father died of a heart attack without warning, but at least he didn't suffer and it was quick. He had just been chatting happily with his sister on the phone an hour before it happened.

Ugh. I am sorry . I really hope I get to keep my parents with me for a long, long time still . I can't imagine living without one of them. I know it'll eventually happen (my father is 60 years old, my mother 53) but I'm in denial for now.

I haven't been able to visit my mother in the hospital because I was away on a short trip (she wanted me to go even though she was getting surgery). This afternoon I'll visit her for the first time since she had surgery. I hope she's feeling better already.

Happy knot and Evelin, I hope your moms are ok and pull through. I don't know what I'd do if my mom got very sick. Shes been there for me and my siblings soo many times.

Oh, Evelien ... I'm a bit older than your mom - really, she isn't that old!

I know the feeling though. Since my stepdad's passing, I've been really worried about my mom living alone and so far away (13 hr drive). She's active and still thinks she can do it all, but I worry about her falling and no one being there to help her. She flat refuses to consider moving up here with us yet; she's not willing to give up the house she lived in with my dad for so long until she absolutely has to.
