Someone got my Debit card number; Fraud woke me up this morning to tell me that in a matter of minutes they had charged over $3000. Fortunately the card was canceled and all the charges were blocked but now I have to wait for my new card to get here, and monitor my account to make SURE the charges don't go through.

Geeze, Misty! I had that happen to me 3 months after opening a new checking account - only not for anywhere near that amount (more like $600). And I was the one who caught the charges - all online, btw.

I think you and Larry are really overdue for some good stuff in your lives to make up for all the crap you have been dealing with lately ....

Had it happen to me and my bank took care of it. Their guess is someone was just going along a list of numbers until they had a hit so in that sense it could happen to anyone, especially if it's all done without a security code or PIN.

Seriously, Larry pointed out that he and I have taken to waking up, not wondering what cool thing was going to happen, but wondering what disaster we are going to have to deal with that happened while we were asleep.

I already heard back from one of the firms that the thief was charging at. They asked me for the billing address and the last four digits--harmless to give out since the card is canceled--and promised to dig up whatever information they can. If they can actually get me a name and an address I intend to call the local police there and press charges. If I do all the legwork for them, the bank might, too. Maybe if banks stopped ignoring this and a few more people ended up with their doors broken in and in jail for credit/debit card fraud, it would stop being quite so attractive.
