An easy answer for dolls- they're better than real babies. You can dress and spoil them then put them in a box when you're done. It's a healthy hobby with sub hobbies, like sewing and making things for your doll, that give you skills you can turn in to a job. And having small people to cuddle is just a girl thing.

Not to mention many of the dolls are Chinese or Korean and there are American ball joints.

This made me giggle. I think I shall use that answer.

Also: dolls are actually cheaper than children in the long run, and retain their value.

I think of that as a friendship test though. I dont' expect people to do things for me, but I hope that if I've helped them out then if there comes a time when I need the help they will do what they can for me. Thus far only the one person I told about really burned me. Doesn't make me stop though - a very good friend of mine was about to have her electricity shut off. Given as I know their water has already been officially cut off (though they broke the lock and have been using it) and it is still summer here in AZ I loaned her the money to make the payment. She didn't want to take it - I made her do it. She protested that she didn't know when should could pay me it all back and I told her I didn't care about that as much as I cared about her health (which is true). If she pays me back, that will be awesome. If not, well then it was my emergency money and it was an emergency. I don't look back, I don't regret. I trust her though - I've helped her before and she has always made good :)

Heck, I loaned money to one of our students who just started. I've only known her for a week, but I knew she'd moved here from out of state and has a severely handicapped daughter. They literally had no money as her student loans hadn't come through yet. I handed her all my cash when I found out and told her to put gas in her car and buy some food. I didn't ask for it back or want it back - but let me tell you, the day after her loan came through she walked up and paid me every dime!

Sometimes it's just worth it to take a chance!

And I have known people like that. It's what gives me hope for the human race. It's like you said, when it becomes expected, then it's not right.

I think everyone is right. I need to stop going out of my way for her. Even now I'm telling her that I have other stuff to do before I can give her new doll a face-up, which is all kinds of insanely true, and she knooooows this. And she's trying to reason to me why I can squeeze in her face-up, because it's "just a basic face-up, nothing fancy"... our other friend is learning face-ups too, and I told her to ask said other friend, and she gives me "but she doesn't have the space to do it, and the humidity is so bad." As flattered as I am that she likes my work better, I think that's a pretty strong hint.

-snort- Oh yeah not like I don't live in the same climate. Six miles really makes aaaaall the difference when it comes to humidity in Florida.

...Well eventually they do... They turn into so much mulch, I imagine polyurethane if stored well could last longer than the average lifetime...

Good thing I don't want the package with the Blythe case and rooting scalp any time soon. Not like it could be delivered or re-delivered.

I think this is my karma for speaking negatively about my friend. I caught a nasty cold, and the wig I ordered from a Luts GO is out of stock, and they waited 2 months to tell the host of the order. 'scuze me while I go make more tea. -shuffles off-
