Went to put the turkey in the oven, and discovered it's broken. Stove top still works, but not the oven. Not sure if I should try and find a repairman or replace the whole darn thing.

what part of the oven is broken? =o if its a big piece it might be better to just replace it. Also, if you still have a stove with elements that are exposed it might be better to invest in a flat top. exposed coils are a fire hazard. >.<||

Oh no! That happened to us...either last year or the year before I believe - stovetop was working fine but when we went to put the turkey in the oven itself did not work. Our only saving grace was an old portable oven that we use during black outs.

It might be the thermostat or something else for temperature control, that was our problem with the first stove. If you have someone who knows what they're doing have them check it out and you might be able to find a replacement part on line.

Same thing happened to us a couple of years ago----the stove top still worked, but the oven part died.

We first tried to replace the element but that didn't work. Turned out it was a faulty knob connection to the oven section elements, and yes, you guessed it, the oven knob/connector parts were not being made any more for that model, so it couldn't be repaired. We had Sears, local repairmen come---all tried but it was not possible because the parts were obsolete.

We tried so hard to fix it, because, of course  , we have a fancy Jenn-Air grill oven that came with the house, and it had to be the same type (our oven is not against a wall, so the pipes go through the floor) or it wouldn't be compatible with the house.
We're SO not gourmet cooks, so we would be happy with any oven, but the house design demanded a Jenn-Air. ARGH! They're so expensive!

Luckily, we found a Jenn-Air on eBay, brand new, from an appliance store, for a little more than 1/2 the cost of one at Sears or direct from Jenn-Air! (These things are $2600!!!) So, I ordered it and we installed it ourselves.

If you need to buy a new oven, VV-sama, you may want to check eBay for pricing, too. It worked out that way for us! ^^

Spotted a mouse.
We haven't had any mice on the seventh floor since they cleared out the nest on the first floor about ten years ago.

I have a cold or sinus infection - sneezing, coughing (dry, useless from the top of my chest) and a headache that ibuprofen won't take down plus post-nasal drip). How?! All I did outside the house last week was go to the grocery store and the post office! Am I so pitiful that I get sick so easily? And naturally it happens over an extended holiday... *whimper*
