6. Most unusual way you adopted a doll.

No unusual adoption stories for me but Rio is my most unusual doll if that counts. :)

I was working for a family once running their little mall kiosk store and the owner's grandmother collected Barbie and 16" dolls. She'd had a stroke and needed someone to sit with her sometimes at night for a while so her regular caretaker could go out and have a life once in a while. Since it didn't interfere with my regular job and I liked the dolls too I volunteered to be her relief person. I figured it would always be fun babysitting her since we could play with dolls while the caretaker was out and we usually did. She was the sweetest woman and when she died her son gave me a FM vinyl Princess Diana doll that she'd specifically set aside as being for me. The rest went to Ebay and such but that doll I still have and I'm very fond of it not only because it's Princess Diana who I rather liked because she told him give it to me. I just thought that was so nice of her to think of me in her last wishes like that.

The only thing I can think of is how I got a little Pamela Love doll. Ever since I owned my first BJD I started thinking about a little doll I used to have when I was little and was very fond of. But I didn't know the name or anything of it anymore. Only the way it looked and that when I bought it (or my mom did) it had a balerina outfit on. I searched trough various pages of old dolls, vintage dolls, 70's dolls, 80's dolls, etc.
I also have to tell at this point that my father trew all my stuff out when I lived on my own. Without letting me or my mother know about it.
Then one day I was clicking randomly on links in peoples signatures and clicked on one of Evelien's which took me to a blog and from that it took me to a page about a little doll called "Pamela Love". I wondered about the little dollies but not recognising them just yet. Then I saw one in a ballerina outfit and all of a sudden I recognised them! These were the dolls I was searching for for months now. The reason I didn't recognise them at first is that there seamed to be 3 kinds. Anyway to make a long story even longer ( )
In my enthousiasm I emailed Evelien to tell them I was so happy she had that page and that I had been searching for these dolls for quit some time. And her reaction was that I should have one of hers as she had quit a few and I seemed so happy I finally found out what doll I was searching for but now had to figure out where to find one myself.
I did not agree to get the doll for free so I made her a nice scarf for her BJD which she was very happy with, as was I with my Pamela Love. She also turned out to be a very nice person and we became friends
Pamela Love is sitting here next to me on a little doll bench and in my roaming around trough second hand shops I found her a friend to sit next to her

Awww Lif thanks so much for posting that! It's funny how we met on a BJD board while we also loved the same vintage dolls. And I still am very happy that I could give you One of my Pams, plus I'm still very happy with the scarf you made, especially now that it's getting colder

I don't think I really have a story that's very special myself. Most of my BJD were second hand adoptions. I guess the best story that I have is about Amy, my Souldoll Asen. I saw her for sale on a Dutch website and contacted the seller, but she decided to not let her go. I couldn't stop thinking about Asen so months later I sent a very cheeky email asking if she wanted to let her go now. I felt sorry right after clicking 'send' but the owner agreed to sell her to me! That was a wonderful surprise

I don't have any unusual doll adoption stories other than how I bought Alwyn, my Souldoll Tiffee. She was my older sister's first BJD and the first one I had ever seen in person. She was named Alice, wore poofy dresses, had blue eyes and brown wavy hair. After two years though, my sister felt that Alice wasn't working out as a sweet little doll that wore Lolita, which was what she was supposed to be. Now I had been playing with her, with permission, more often than her owner for about 4 months. My parents' had started asking if Alice was my sister's doll or mine, that's how much I was playing with her.

So when my sister decided to sell her she said that she knew how much I liked Alice and that I could buy her for a reduced price. It all worked out in the end. My sister bought a FCS Volks MSD when she went to Japan, so she now has the adorable Lolita girl she had wanted. And as for "Alice" or Alwyn as I renamed her, well I found out why dresses never worked on her. She is a total tomboy! Though from the time period her character is from, it would be crossdressing.

Walked up to a girl at the Dairyland Mega Meet, and offered her 2 of my Resinsoul dolls for her MInifee. .. and she actually said yes. Definitely the most shocking and strange way I ever got a doll.

My tale is about a doll I don't have yet!

After talking Evelien into not getting rid of her Souldoll ASEN, I made her promise to give me first chance if she ever does decide to sell her again.

I hadn't bought any dolls since moving to California. I was making arrangements to move back East to get married, and wanted to buy myself one doll from the doll shop downtown before moving. The morning I went to the shop, I was planning to meet my fiancé's mom on webcam later that day. I knew she was part Danish. So I picked up Princess of the Danish Court Barbie. Now I'll always remember I got her on the day I met my MIL.

Kirahfaye, I'm afraid I will never let her go now

and I forgot about a different story. Before I came to the DS, I was a regular at a site for fashion doll owners and fell in love with ellowyne wilde. When One of my Friends there sold a few of his ellowynes, he gave me One for free because he knew I didn't have the funds at the time.

I'm still so amazed that he shipped her all the way from the States at his expense. And I feel quite guilty for moving on to BJD, while not giving her enough attention...
