Futon Tutorial

Postby embyquinn » Sun Jan 27, 2013 11:19 pm

Since I'm still not 100 percent certain of my photography skills, I decided to do an illustrated tutorial on the making of a futon like the one in Cherry's travel room. This is a great single-occupancy convertible chair/futon for a 12" doll.

Materials:

Popsicle sticks (at least 30)
Glue
1/4" wide ribbon, two 12" pieces
Scissors (to cut sticks with)
Paint (optional)

This is what the futon frame looks like in real life.

A cushion can be easily made from three thin pieces of foam covered with fabric. If you look closely, you can see that I added a couple more 1" pieces of popsicle stick to the end of the "backrest" frame to make it more level with the seat portion, but this is totally optional.

I hope this inspires many more futons!

Oooh... I like. I made a traditional Japanese futon for my first boy but this is really cool.

I. LOVE. THIS.

I've tried making a bed out of popsicle sticks before but it didn't quite work out. The ribbon idea is ingenious. Thanks for posting this!!

Oh my gosh, this is amazing! And just with a bunch of popsicle sticks, I have a set of 1000 of those. :)
Thanks so much for this, I'm going to use this as soon as I get the time.
