Good Doll Display Deal At Walmart...

Postby magkelly » Tue Jan 29, 2013 12:18 am

I have been looking all over for these poly cubes in these colors and with these cube dimensions. If you don't mind shopping online with the Evil Empire of Wally World this is a stunning deal. Everyone else I can find them is selling pink, blue, and purple, but usually they're not this big. I saw one set of the 10" ones on Amazon but with shipping it would have cost me $45. Too much for my wallet. They're only available online though. (I used my Wally card and had them delivered to the closest super store...) They are on clearance for $15. Walmart says old price was $20 but that's unusually cheap for these at this size. I've seen mini 6" desk cube sets and sets of 3 of the 10" cubes for that but at 14" each they are usually around $35-50 a pop depending upon how many cubes.

They can be configured different ways if you buy more than one set. I think they're actually frosted, not opaque, most of these are, but it's hard to tell from the pics. Likely they're smoke black and frosted white. If you zoom in they look like you can see through them at least a bit. They're more than sturdy enough for small to medium dolls though and big enough for 12" dolls standing up. Bigger dolls might have to sit or be up top. I think they are very cool and about the next best thing to having actual glass display cubes so I grabbed 2 of each while I could get them for $15 a pop. Mind you I'm talking plastic and vinyl dolls. I know nothing about resin dolls because unfortunately I have none... :P

Single cube dimensions: 14"W x 14"D x 14"H
Total set dimensions: 30"W x 14"D x 45"H

Target also has similar sized solid plastic cubes at their stores.

Those Wal-Mart ones sound like they're a nice size.

I saw a blog that mentioned them. I went to Target and looked. Nothing. Checked online. Nothing. Looks like they might be discontinued. If you google poly cubes and Target it comes up but when you actually go to Target.com the listing for them has been removed. They were apparently pretty popular as impromptu guinea pig play pens at one point too but of course I looked at them and saw the potential for some really cool doll displays. I saw several sets of colored ones, smaller ones for kids rooms, but nothing like this set that didn't cost near $45.

I've used the metal grid Target kind for years (magkelly, you're right--a lot of piggy people recommend cube and coroplast cages because they're easy to clean and you can make them big enough for multiple piggies) and they're super nice, and I might grab a pack of these with a $20 Walmart giftcard someone gave me a while ago. I hate Walmart, but hey, these might come in handy for my dolls and give me a place to put that free money.

I just got an email this morning saying mine are at the store. I'm going to pick them up Sunday morning. So I will let you know how it goes. But it looks like they ship pretty fast. I wasn't expecting them till Monday at least. Monday is bookshelf arrival day, but I have no idea of when my little Ikea dressers are going to be here as I have yet to even get a heads up from them that they have shipped. My roommate got me a power screwdriver today as a surprise though. She said they thought it might be helpful and make the job go faster. She and my ex-roommate are both coming over to help me assemble it all this week. Actually he chipped in too. I thought that was sweet and I was thinking about it actually getting one while I was at Walmart tomorrow. Those bookcases have about a million screws. Didn't want to tackle them all by hand particularly as I have been royally sick again the past few weeks. Never ending sinus crap, ugh. But hopefully this time next week we will be all organized the dollies and me...

Thumbs up. I liked them so much I ordered 3 more. I put one of each together for a bit just to see how they worked this afternoon and I must say they looked very nice in both black and white. One thing I do want to do though is back the plastic connectors up with utility ties. I think they're fairly sturdy considering what they are made of but I'd feel much safer putting my 16" girls on them if they had a bit more support. The circle connectors look good once they are on, but they seem a bit easily disconnected. Actually they were not the easiest thing to connect in the first place. It took me a few secs to figure out how they worked. They might be a little light for 16" dolls. I'm going to try it once I get the ties and see but they seem perfect for 12" dolls. They are 14" inside from what I can tell. Too short for the 16" crowd unless they're sitting for the bottom shelves, but they look really nice on the top shelf and I think if the weight will hold each shelf should hold about 4-5 dolls for 16" or maybe 6 for Barbie sized dolls. I have a feeling once they have utility ties and a wall to sit against they'll be ideal for showing off a lot of my girls and boys and I'm glad I went there.

Hn, those seem to be pretty awesome for a number of things. I might well pick those up, thanks for the headsup. :D
