Most of my dolls are from the same family so I wanna have names that fit...Thus far almost all of 'em are Japanese. XD;;;

Arcani I was actually torn between the name Lobo (wolf he was originally going to be wolf themed) and another name then I saw Arcani and saw it's meaning...And it fit. I love saying it too. XD;; So that helps.

Akane was based off of a character I created in seventh grade, although he didn't turn out to be the Akane I wanted.

I picked Kharis's name out of a supposed list of elven names because the character I created him from was just known as Mr. Kaiser, Kaiser-san, or Kaiser-sama.

My dolls are based on characters I've came up with long before I get the dolls. Their names are just, for the most part... normal Western people names. Their surnames denote ethnic origin, if any, or there's a darn good reason for the name's existence.

Lettice Rafferty - I found out later Lettice was the name of Elizabeth I's cousin, interestingly. Rafferty is a good, albiet anglicized, Irish surname. Lettice is of Fey decent so.. it works. Plus, I liked it.

Avery St. Claire - Avery's a nice unisex name that works well for a pretty blonde and Saint Claire is the saint of needleworkers. I happen to be a needleworker of sorts.. and so the name happened. It's also of French origin and Avery's of french decent.

Sebastian Valentine - I love the name Sebastian. I think it's befitting of my fiery fellow. Valentine isn't his family's original name, it not being a very English name while that part of the family that had any surname worth mentioning were English.. They simply made it up along with other various names over the centuries and it's the one that stuck. He comes from a family of immortals that sort of just adapt to the times.

Titiana Valentine - It's a She's Sebastian's cousin so the same goes for the surname. She's pretty fierce so a name with the word 'titian' in it suited her well.

Patrick Valentine - Patrick is a nice name for a nice guy. He is Sebastian's dad, thus the same surname. He's of Hungarian, English, and sort of Spanish-ish decent.

Vivica Pinagpala - She's an American of Filipino decent. I think her name developed out of a song I liked by some goth band as a kid. I remembered the song, thought 'Gee, that's a pretty name.' and it stuck.

Brody Jean Lamotte - I think I just love the name Brody. I blame Mall Rats. He's Cajun.

Fyodor Galway - He's British. I liked the name from a baby name book mostly because 'Fyo' is a cute nickname. His parents could have easily thought the same, right?

Landon Crawley - Landon was named after a dear friend that passed away from brain cancer this last summer. He was always extremely supportive of my work with dolls and of me in general. It was his surname, but I thought it made a nice first name while paying homage to a wonderful man. The surname is something the character picked out, him being an angel that basically just named himself to give people something to call him.

i either go to baby-name sites, or looks through words in that doll's character's 'verse (drow, etc) and pick names based on their background or attributes i want them to have. then i never bother to remember the meanings, lol.

Originally, I had characters picked out, and looked for sculpts that went with that. However, I've also had dolls that I just sort of played with and their names eventually came to me without throwing names at them, I just sort of knew like a pet? I knew their names within the first few hours after getting them *but* they definitely weren't picked out. Oddly with both the characters that were prepicked out they've sort of evolved and their names have changed a bit too.

To name my dolls I usually do what I would for characters and break out the Name your Baby book. I make alist of possible names and wait for the doll to arrive so I can figure out what works best. Ethel is the only doll that shells a pre-made character, but she went through the same general process.

There have been only two dolls that didn't follow my method: Alwyn and Emmilinda. I tried to rename Alwyn using the naming book but I still liked how her original name, Alice, sounded. So I combined Alice and one of the names I was considering.
Emmilinda is my music box doll. When I bought her from a thrift store, the woman working there told me how the doll had been in the store so long that they had named her. The moment I saw her, I thought she should be a Emma or Emily, which the worker thought suited her, even though the employees had named her Linda. I decided right there that I would combine the names. I'm still figuring out how to spell it though. :P

I have a couple of meathods to my madness! Aside from my 'character dolls', which, obviously, I don't name myself lol, I seem to either:
-go on Behind the Name and generate or search until one strikes my fancy, (Emile)
-go with whatever name seems to pop in my head and stick as I'm working on their first face-up, (Solomon)
-or pick an idea, place, object etc that reflects their personality, (Avarice, Riddles)

November, though, was named so because I spent the entire month of November that year dealing with a problem seller and thinking he had been lost. And, well, Thomas Messenger is named after a favorite character of mine from Vellum, (although he is nothing like that character whatsoever).

So...maybe there IS no meathod to my madness..?

I tend to stalk baby name sites until a name jumps out at me and then I check if the name meaning matches the character. Gloria was named by her previous owner and it stuck since I didn't have a character planned for her. Es is German for it because the his floating head was gender and story-less for basically two years. I had no idea where he was going so the head was just "it" and Es stuck. Geist is German for spirit which worked well because when I came up with him, he was basically an add on to Taavi's character and there wasn't much to his character beyond what he was. Ada will be keeping her sculpt name because it just works for her. I really don't know how Max's character got named. He just sort of happened.
