XD I get similar. Usually I'll get frustrated (eventually) and then I'll spend a day or so organising. I know what you mean though, living out of plastic tubs... I hadn't unpacked my bedroom for the first two years I lived in my current house, and even now I still have boxes left unpacked. ^^;; Oops. My stuff tends to end up absolutely everywhere as well.

I had to force myself not to re-buy a bunch of tiny buttons because I know I put them up -somewhere-.

That made me laugh. I have a whole big tin of tiny buttons I gleefully bought at a yard sale last year, several hundred of them, somewhere, but right now I couldn't tell you where.

When I put a bunch of fabric in some tubs in the back of my closet I wrote notes what was inside, like Halloween and knits. The dolls keep themselves and their stuff in fabric bins, crafts and sewing are in the closet in mostly clear tubs. I made myself spend the money and it's added color to the space too, I found tubs with colored pencils and hand prints on them. Even something like a collapsable Monster High trunk has helped wrangle things.

I....I can't find my Freya's tail -_- I'm stuborn and unwilling to dig through my trash unless it's absolutely required so I have a bag of bedroom trash hidding in my basement. It's not like it's food or anything (fabric snippings, plastic) so it's not super gross but I just want to find that danm tail so I can chuck the bag. I removed it when I was trying to make her a coat and it's been AWOL ever since.

Put another open trash bag under the first one and slowly dump the contents of bag #1 into bag #2. Sooner or later as the trash falls into the second bag if it's in there you're bound to see it and you can just snatch it out without having to sift through the whole bag or make a mess on the floor.
