Oh, it is not hard at all. I used to be scared, too. But once I started...there was no stopping me. :D You can get 'blank' bodies directly from Tonner in DeeAnna's size for about 40-45 dollars but at times you can find a nude dolly even cheaper. The easiest way (if you are patient) to do the heads is with a heating pad that has a cover. I use a medium setting and wrap up the head area for about 15-20 mins until they are soft. Then they just pop right off and are pliable enough to swap out. If they begin to harden again, just warm them back up for a few minutes.

You can use the boiling water method as well if you are in a hurry, but hot water will mess up a hairstyle and remove curl if it gets on the hair.

I don't trust blow dryers...I have had them melt hair before. :(

Thanks and best wishes!

Whee!!!

I just received my 'Vivaciously Vintage' Deeanna doll yesterday!! She was the one with the EXACT hair color, make up and look/faceup as Deanna Durbin, and she really IS the spitting image of the actress!!!! (I've no doubt at all, now that I have her in my hands, that this doll's face was based on Deanna's! Even down to her name!! ^^)

Anyway, she's gorgeous and I love her!!!! I'll most probably sell her outfit and make Deanna's white gown from 'Spring Parade' (1940) which is my favorite film of hers, to truly make her a 'portrait doll'!

Thanks again, Highlander-san and Misheru-san for helping me make up my mind that she IS Deanna! ^^ :hugs:

I am SOOOO pleased! She is beautiful! The two new ones out for this fall are so lovely, too. I don't have them yet, but I will. One has platinum hair in undergarments and the other has dark red hair in a pale yellow chiffon evening gown. *sigh*

Tonner does a really good job posing their ladies, the Platinum DeeAnna is particularly fetching as she's posed to almost completely hide her knee joints, so she just has fabulous legs...

I'm not really into the Tonner Dolls, although I have tons of respect for Robert Tonner as an artist (especially since he has done so much to preserve the vintage dolls of my childhood), but this was a lovely diversion looking at all of the pictures this morning. She is a lovely doll, and I also love her realistic figure.

I think DeeAnna is going on my wish list. I like that Marilyn Monroe-esque platinum blonde basic girl.

You're very welcome. If nothing else, when we share our pictures we help our fellow collectors who might like to look, but don't want to take the plunge and get one.

Oh my goodness she's lovely! It's very cool that she's modeled after such a glamorous film star. What an era that was.

She's a very versatile sculpt... she seems to suite everything from the diva to the dominatrix! I have to admit my preference for inset glass eyes; the ones that were retrofitted for them are just gorgeous. I dare not venture into any more doll types/scales, etc... I have waaay too many already.

Thanks to all for the lovely pics. It's so much fun to windows shop! :P (I'm such a loser... I'm not even using windows right now. Just couldn't resist the stupid joke :D)

LOL! Windows FTW!

As for the inset eyes. The gentleman that does them, Jim Dandy, does inset eyes on most of the Tonner range, I believe he takes commissions, but he also regularly buys either splits or basic dolls and adds the inset eyes - complete with drilling out the old eye and re-doing the face-up as needed. I believe that he will also add lashes. His work is very high quality. So if you decide that you ever do want to get into this scale and sculpt, search out his name, and you will find someone who can help you with inset eyes in this doll. You can usually find him at the Prego doll discussion forum, and I believe that he also sells through Ebay on occasion.
