Takara Jenny boyfriend measurements?

Postby delbelcoure » Wed May 12, 2010 1:16 pm

I got my hands on a My Favorite Doll pattern for Jeff (I think that's his name ) and I have no idea what his measurements are. I'd like to size up the pattern for a MSD. Does anyone know what the chest, waist & hip circumference, shoulder width and arm & leg length are?
Thanks,
Susan

I'm guessing that Dollykim has one and can help on this (she is the 1/6 specialist :) ), but if not holler at me when i get back from CCBJD next week. I have one of him laying around somewhere so I'll measure him for you :)

Jeff in centimeters-
bust- 13 1/2
waist- 9 1/2
hips- 12 1/2
legs- 18 1/2
shoulders across- 4 1/2
arm- 10

I used to enlarge them 200% for my Obitsu 60, cut the seam allowance off the paper and add a new one to the fabric.

Thank you very much DollyKim! I am struggling with costuming MSD sized dolls. They are much smaller than my comfort range. I sat the three of them (the dolls  ) down and told them that if they didn't inspire me to sew for them, I wouldn't buy anymore of them. I didn't have the heart to tell them that it would be the auction block if they didn't get their Muse act together. I actually seated them together so they could discuss the situation. Silly, but true

MSD - approx 75% of an SD pattern in size :) I've enjoyed sewing for my MSD girl - she gave me the courage to get a bigger doll and sew more complicated stuff! Lachlan has a cute bubble skirt that I made based on something I saw in a human sewing magazine! And I threw together a sort of tube top to match it - she'll have them both with her at CCBJD.

And see, I KNEW that DK would have those measurements!

Start for any sized doll like you would start for a person, with a fitting shell. My Dollzone minis are sneakily close to the Obitsu 60 in some places, the Orientdoll I quickly figured out can start with patterns for Trent and Matt O'Neil. The 200% trick works in general for most 1/6 to resin enlargements. This site http://www.dalerae.com/Enlargepattern06.htm covers many other tricks, bless her heart.

Keep an eye out for $1 pattern sales at the fabric store and get several of the reprints for vintage composition and plastic dolls, lucky me pack rat grandma kept the originals, many of those are a good start. I keep a basic measurements chart of my big dolls with me so I can tell if something will be useful.

I'm actually okay on the pattern making. It's the actual mechanics of sewing tiny things that gets to me. I'm a very good costumer/ seamster for humans. Learning to sew for the 60cm dolls wasn't too bad, although I still get stumped now and then. 45cm dolls are the edge of my comfort level, I am seriously procrastinating on sewing a ninja outfit for my daughter's new doll. She wants undergarments and lined garments to protect the resin from dye (and her delicate sensibilities from resin "Bits" ) and the bulkiness of all those layers is getting to me. We both want cargo pants for our 1/4 scale dolls and I am immobilized with fear ( only slightly exaggerating here- I haven't sewn hardly anything since getting this request) over the accurate placement and sewing of the tiny pockets. MFD 18 features cargo pants, so I'm hoping that using someone else's pattern will bolster my confidence. I've already drafted my own pattern, but I tried to put gusseted pockets on it and doing that in 1/4 scale intimidated me.

A few muslin 'under garments' takes the place of lining from me. A pair of pants, a long sleeved shirt, kind of like union suits or body stockings. My minis wear a lot of black, all dye set, and haven't been stained. Infact the only ones who have were the unsealed Obitsus. My little soft busts have some slips. Dolls don't sweat so they don't have to change their underwear.

The Jenny books do pretty good with pockets. For my Obitsu 60 I just cut a pair of my sister's warn out cargo pants with the pockets put in strategic places for the doll. What about making the pockets and using iron on interfuse to put them on the pants?

for placeing pockets and little things I finish the edges of the pocket to give it that sewn on look and use fabric glue around the edges to attach it . once dry I hand stitch a few stiches in the corners to make sure it stays

Now gluing it in place sounds like a great idea! I've got the pattern enlarged and will be kitbashing it with the DZ pants pattern posted on Junkyspot. The underwear just got finished! Interestingly enough, the Ellowyne Wilde underwear pattern from Magalie Dawson fits DZ boys. I know my daughter would prefer boxers to briefs, but I basically told her "Want in one hand and spit in the other..."
