There are a LOT of manga books in English. Is there a specific one you're raging about that hasn't been translated?

Well Tokyopop closed the manga side of their business so this summer was kind of dry. Some genres were plentifule but if those weren't your kind of thing then there wasn't so much. But I see some interesting stuff listed for the next six months.

It seems all the books I'm interested in is either out of print in english, never came in english in the first place or the publisher went out of business. Wahhhh! :(

The building that was slated to become a new bookstore for our town now has 'For Sale' signs in the front window again. Bleargh, bleargh, bleargh.

O___O

TOKYOPOP STOPPED DOING MANGA??

>_> I haven't bought manga in a long time because of my dollmaking. I had no idea.

But there are still companies putting out manga, like Viz and Dark Horse.
I have so many dolls that I can't fit all their names in my signature anymore. @__@

Wow!!! I'm glad that 'La Corda d'Oro' is by Viz, I think. ^^ I was undecided if I should collect them in original Japanese or in English, but opted for the English, since our parents can't read Japanese, and they enjoy Corda, too. ^^

The one thing that's pretty annoying though, is that in English, they changed it so that everyone calls each other by their first name. 0_o
That's an important aspect in Corda, that everyone calls each other by their LAST name and then as they grow fonder, the first name comes into play.

Particularly one part, when the girl is like 'My one wish is that he would call me by my [first] name...'

So it was kind of moot in the English version since he'd been calling her her first name since the start!! :laughs:

Whenever I read it, my mind inserts what they would REALLY call each other, instead of what the English version states.

But anyway, despite this one minor point, the Eng version is great and easy to read!!! Maywong-san, I absolutely recommend Corda! You should check it out!! You'll love it!!! It's my all-time, number one, favorite series/characters of ANY genre! (Not just anime/manga!)

I adore it!!! ^.~

This is why I don't like to watch dubbed anime or read (corporately) translated manga. I've been told I'm being irrational but it drives me into a frothing rage sometimes. Like when that dreamy bishonen is given the voice of a four-year-old girl in English, or chunks of plot are rewritten or completely omitted. Drives me insane. I pay for the series I love, not their interpretation of it. I would rather pay to get it from Japan than support their rewriting my fandom.

/end rant

Realistically some companies are better about this than others and a lot of it is done to make cultural differences easier for the American reader (which is a whole different nerd rage for me) but sometimes there is just no justifying the flub-ups they do to foreign pop culture.

I know what you mean about stuff getting translated into english getting messed up. It all depends on who is doing it. :? Sigh, unfortunately I can only read english. Even though I'm getting 2 books in Japanese in this series I really like. I love the artist.

SetsunaKou- I'll have to look into that magna. Thanks.

It's looking like I'm going to be working late enough on Christmas eve that I probably won't get to go to my great-uncle's house for the annual get-together. Which sucks because my mom's family has two big gatherings a year, one in the summer which I worked during, and Christmas Eve which I'm probably going to be working through. Which means I won't get to see anyone and I still haven't got to meet my cousin's newest baby, who was only a few days old in the summer when I didn't get to go. I really hate my job sometimes.

The mint Frankie Monster reroot has been paid for and shipped, no word from the Draculara and Lagoona people. If I'm not paid by tonight I'm tossed between filing non payment complaint, auction ended Sunday, or going with a second best offer.

*Oh, I can send a money order tomorrow. Uh, no, I don't accept them.

Virginia Tech just had another shooting and the guy is still at large. :( I hope the rest of the students and passerbys stay safe until the guy is caught.
